Yep. Double apple isn't supposed to mean red&green apples, it just means regular apple but with more strength to it. The licorice only augments the apple flavor in the mix and I suppose that's the recipe that's shared among all manufacturers.
On another note, I really want to try regular apple + sour apple and see if it tastes like apple croustade (french pastry).
