if you have a flat top stove DO NOT PUT THE COALS ON IT
if you have a coil stove just toss them on one of the coils, its just ash and you can clean it off, my friend designated one coil on his stove for coals to confine the mess (and a stove with coils will light faster than the stand alone coil burners any way)
a blow torch will work but you will ash the coals fully before the inside is lit all the way and if you put them on you will get bad tastes. i have one of the hotter burning torches (has the push button that lights it self, and it pulls a lot of atmosphere so it burns really hot) and had issues lighting coals with it.
if you have a camp stove try that, its meant to be messy any way
