Lemon juice and vinegar mixed are supposed to be an excellent rust remover. Personally, I wouldn't hesitate to try CLR. It rinses off well, but I'd make SURE I rinsed it very well in hot water. I use a product called Lemishine in our dishwasher, there's a warning not to use it on aluminum, but I would think (since it's like uber concentrated lemon) it would do a great job of removing rust. I just wouldn't let it sit for long. Might be risky though considering the warning.
