Default Too Much Airflow?

So i just purchased a KM, and still haven't gotten a good smoke out of it ever since i changed the way i poked holes. I switched to a method of as many as possible tiny tiny saftey pin holes. I also spent a lot more time breaking up the tobacco, making sure all the leaves were pulled apart and exposed. Now when i go to smoke, either the smoke is very thin, and burns so damn easily. Even when it burns the smokes incredibly thin. Ive tried anywhere from half a ql to two full ones, windcover and no windcover, and just cant get a good smoke. And unfortunately, i can't seem to recreate my old methods anymore. So is it possible that this is giving me too much airflow through the tobacco? Or, any other suggestions?
