I don't think it's just the copper that does it. I think it's the transition of one material to another. The conductive quality between the two metals is much less than that of a solid piece. I have a double pear and if I were to grab the top of the stem after a session it'd probably burn my hand, but below the first pear it's room temp. So I just believe it's because of the transition from one material to another.
