It'll make the initial pull smoother because of the surface area. When you pull on a non-diffused stem it you'll have the initial "chug" of the force for the pressure to equalize so if you have a larger bubble like in an diffused stem, that initial chug is broken up which requires less force. After that first part of the pull, the pull will be pretty similar regardless.
As far as less flavor, I don't personally notice much difference. But since the "smoke" is more like a vapor it might make sense that the diffusion with increased surface area would give more opportunity for the "moisture"(for lack of a better term) in the smoke would permeate into the water through osmosis, but once again I don't notice it. I just don't diffuse because the nicotine doesn't bother me.
