That's honestly what I'd do as well. When I received my MZ I knew to watch out for defects and inspected every piece thoroughly. As with many Egyptian bases, mine had minor cosmetic defects like air bubbles around the rim and a little chip out of the frosted paint finish, but nothing to where it had cracks or splits in it. If it had I would have returned it, because eventually cracks spread, especially if the glass is exposed to drastic temperature changes.
