The heat is not going to hurt it.
the reason it is clumping up is because the fridge is extracting moisture from the air with it's compressor. This will, in turn, extract moisture from the tobacco. The same way that if you leave wet food in the fridge uncovered it dries out really quickly. Ever had poultry be uncovered and turn so dry it's almost jerky like?
