There was a thread recently on how to fix bad batches of coals. It was to bake them at 200 degrees (F) for like 1/2 an hour(might want to double check :X). Although that issue was coals going out during a session, I'm sure that you could try it without any harm or loss if it happened again.

You bake for more like 2 hours. However, this doesn't sound like moisture damage, which is what my technique would fix. This sounds like something else altogether. Sure hope I never run into this problem. Sounds like a real buzz-kill for a good bowl.
