Ahhh I am sure it is oxidation .. and I have experienced this problem with my most favorite hookahs! Khalil Mamoons
Always wash our hookah after use for an evening. Make sure to blow out all the water you can, from the stem, hose ports, and purge ports. THEN .. make sure to stand up with the bottom on the floor and the top in a corner. That way, any left over water that you couldn't towel off or blow out will drip down the stem and evaporate
From experience, I know that if you leave it where the water can "sit" .. you will get that green gunk. If you allow the water a super easy way to evaporate or dry it, no green gunk
