Ah, no actually. They were banned because the prohibitionist movement claimed that they were designed to get kids to smoke while offering no evidence whatsoever that they did any such thing. The same lobby says the same thing about cigars ("celebs smoke em which means that kids will smoke em so let ban em") and they use the same scare tactic to encourage banning narghiles. Basically the save the kids hysteria is just an over used tactic to get lemmings behind banning tobacco or taxing it to such an extent that it is effectively banned.
