Heat is also a big thing to consider here... I have no experience with phunnel bowls. I mainly use vortex and classic egyptian clay. Generally, smaller holes will create more heat and larger holes will create less. It honestly depends alot on what type of shisha you are smoking (and its cut). With HH, i use several large holes and only one coal. HH taste much better with less heat and more airflow. Most other modern shisha's (SB, SS, and JM's for example) will smoke better with more heat and smaller holes. This technique always brings me great results.
