It makes sense then that the "goza bowls" you often see selling online are single, large bore holes funneling straight down and traditionally used with a small rock to block the mu'assel from dropping into the stem. Seems like a super inexpensive, improv device. I think you traditionally place coals directly onto the mu'assel and the burned layer forms your barrier for continued smoking.
