I usually put 2 layers of standard foil. It keeps the bowl from getting too hot or from burning the tobacco.

Ugh I never do that ring thingy...It never works for me and its a pain in the rear imo lol. I hardly get ne smoke or flavor out of it and it takes longer to heat up and its a waste of foil :P
