Re: Has anyone used these?
I just smoked Nahkla Orange using these coals. I must say I am most impressed.
Breaking up the large pieces was easy. All I had to do was jab the coals a little with my tongs and I had good sized pieces.
Their longevity blew me away, to be quite frank with you. The coals I first started using are still glowing, albiet at a much smaller size. I should probably put those out since I am about to head out.
They gave off no taste, so I could enjoy my Nahkla while listening to Om Kolthom tell the tale of Alif Leila wa Leila, or One Thousand and One Nights.
Flakes of ash were not much of an issue, but it was still there, so I made sure to clean up the relatively small mess left by Saalaam coals.
Of course like any other bulk charcoal, it's best to heat these up in an open area because there will be some sparks flying, but nothing huge. They're more on par with quicklights in this manner.
The only downside is the fact that they don't smell like oranges. I was pissed, but I'm willing to let that one slide.
