It's what i do with my hookah parts before putting them away for storage
i'd imagine this method helps clean out all the residue on the inside the bowl, which would be extremely hard to get rid of with a brush. interesting that the boiling water removed a lot of the extra stuff, i'll have to try this if my bowl ever gets too dirty but i usually rinse it out after every few uses and have only had it for about 6 months thus far. i think i've got a little while to go before i'll give this a shot
