Hah, I want to see Holly Madison as a judge, I think she lives in Vegas. Wouldn't mind seeing a hose in her mouth, a hookah hose that is.

I want to know who the hell "Yogi" Halbert is.....lol. He seems like a self proclaimed hookah master?
Not too fond of the coal rules...."Only one of three approved charcoals can be used: Deja Vu, Three Kings and Luxor brands"

Looks like I found yet another reason to be glad I'll never be able to set foot in Vegas again. If this yogi guy is hookah master then I am world class astrophysicist & Obama fundraiser.
I can just imagine the cafe that sponsors this contest as wall to wall hipsters, young women suffering moral in-turpitude and hygienic problems, wall to wall thumping techo/rap and all of the yuppie drinks and SB one could ever imagine. Geez, it's gotta be like Jersey Shore minus all of the class and intellectual content coming to life. |

This could be the worst hookah tobacco competition in the world.

I hate all but like 2 lounges in this city. These self proclaimed masters of hookah and the lounges we have every 20 feet smoking SB and Fantasia need to burn down and move aside for real lounges.

Damn that video was annoying. From the crappy music, to the SB hype to stereotypical blacks blabbering about the art of hookah together crated a virtual cornucopia of all that I hate about the what this cerebral pastime has turned into. If I actually thought that this sort of thing was what it was all about I'd never have had anything to do with moassel. Simply horrible.

Ugh.......I couldn't agree more, plus Bones is right, we have these "lounges" on every corner. Tourist traps. If only we had a legit place to smoke.....haha

All though I'd Do disagree with what they are using I will say that just because someone does smoke SB out of a Chinese rig does not mean they do not know what they are doing. If you pack a bowl right, Heat it right, and etc you can have a great session. Just because someone doesnt like tobacco undertones doesnt mean they dont have skills or knowledge of Hookahs or tobacco. For all we know this Yogi guy could have smoked or does smoke at times real tobacco but he is simply appealing to the market THAT MAKES HIM MONEY! Even if I were to open a lounge it doesnt mean im only going to carry Nakhla, Salloum, Desi Murli and, if I could, Jurak. I wouldnt make nearly as much money. I would have to sell and smoke at times SB. Not only that but many hipster like the look of Chinese Hookahs, Hence another reason he could have been using such a hookah. If people see this "Hookah Master" using one wouldn't they also want to buy one? And yes they do not stand the test of time like Khalil Mamoons or other Egyptian hookahs but isnt that good for business? If it breaks down after awhile and you do not know any better, like most hipsters, You will just buy another one. Its creating a market for crappy things so HE/Others can make money. Despite the fact it sucks people do need to make a living and half the time people simply exploit the ignorance of others ( which every company on the planet does Hookah is no different. It is the job of the consumer to research and find what is really the best product for them. It is the companys jobs to advertise and make their product seem awesome) After all of that, I do also think its a joke and would never attend such things expect if I were single and needed someone easy. But it is a great way to make money.

Certainly people that use crappy Chinese rigs and think that SB is the greatest may very well know how to pack and manage heat. Furthermore, those that happen to like the chemical/sugar tastes can get a good session if they have said skills. However, knowning how to pack and manage a single brand/style of faux moassel is about as hard as driving a car on a level straight road at 20KPH and hardly reflective of being a "master". Furthermore, from my experience cafes rarely have knowledgeable staffs and they frequently don't know how to setup anything which doesn't matter because the clueless hipsters that keep the typical lounge open don't know and don't care about what they smoke. What they do know is that they want to be seen doing something that is trendy.
I understand that in order to make the most money possible you need to cater the lowest element possible and that means a bar selling SB at crazy prices to drunk sluts, clueless tourists, frat dicks and Ed Hardy fans. The problem is that such an activity has about as much to do with our favorite pass time as mopeds have to do with F1 racing or Obama has to do with peace. That someone makes money of of of crass stupidity and living stereotypes doesn't make it less offensive or annoying. |

For me i dont care what you smoke and for me i dont care about this contest as i cant see this as a true blend master. From what i have pieced together making of modern hookah tobbaco is quite simple in comparisson of the stories Hajo told about these guys working for years on a batch of tobacco. now those people are real masters working herbs and spices and whatever to get a trully unique taste. where as most of the modern companies us flavored extracts and such.
now just to clarify i smoke everything from a fine Jurak to modern tobaccos like jm's and hookafina. for me i smoke so the taste and as long as it doesnt taste fake i dont care how wet or dry it is or who makes it... i love just sitting around relaxing with a bowl |
