Default Burning problem

SMoking romman, with a vortex bowl. I only packed it half way up so it is below the top of the spire and not touching the foil. I started with 3 coconaras to get it going, backed it off to 2 and then like 20 minutes in my shisha started burning really badly. I dunno what the problem is because 2 is usually a good number, but it is burning a lot, and i backed it down to 1 and then it all but quits on me... so what am I doing wrong

Sounds like you under packed it which could be the reason it burned. Under packed bowls need a lot of heat to get going and need good heat management to make sure they don't get harsh. The less tobacco in the bowl the quicker/easier it will be to burn.

the shisha your smoking can also make a difference, some are more heat sensitive then other, make sure your rotating your coals every so often. im not saying you did this but i never understood why people choose to pack their vortex bowls all the way under the holes on the spire claiming it makes for better air flow. as long as you dont pack down the shisha and pack it loosely around everywhere under the rim it should be 100%

too many holes/underpacking.. pack it a bit more densely with less holes possibly. Invest in a wind cover.
