The pull is pretty fine but the heat wasn't coming through , I tried with a knife too and pull is not a big problem really the heat simply wasn't getting through i'll try again this evening and report any advances

Your ideal hole poker will be a toothpick really. Big enough to allow good heat ventilation, but small enough that ash won't fall through and ruin your smoke. My routine is I go around the very edges with the tooth pick, creating holes every inch or so, then I go in about an inch and do the same thing and continue doing that until I'm in the center. Then go along and poke a hole in areas that look like they need one.

Thanks for the advice i'll be sure to apply it on my next smoking sessions I first used a toothpick a year ago when I discovered hookahs But this is no big feat really doesnt that much just set up your coco nara and start poking .

I have found many small holes creates a more restricted draw, which in turn gives small clouds and harsh smoke. The only upside I've found is that ash won't get into the holes, but if you're using decent coals, ashing and flipping every so often, that shouldn't ever be an issue.

Bigger holes is the way to go, at least for me. I use a wooden skewer or toothpick, and also put a few smaller ones in. I do it like this:

that is way too many holes, that's probably why your shisha gets charred, try poking maybe half that amount of holes

I use a bamboo skewer to poke my holes, three rings or so and about half of them all the way into the tobacco.
