Default FUMO Mini Tank Harshness

Hello !

I suscribed to Hookahpro.com because I have some troubles with my hookah !

I'm using a FUMO Mini Tank and her XL vortex/phunnel glass bowl with 3 natural coals (King Coco or Cocobuzz 2.0) and some Al Fakher Grape ! I'm also using the WG2 as screen !

I'm packing the tobacco 1cm below the rim, and I let it sit for 5/6 minutes before to start to draw !!

After 10 minutes or so, the smoke start to taste burnt, less flavor, and after 20/25 minutes I can't even smoke.. no matter if there is the windguard or not. The same happens when I purge the base by blowing on the hose to have some fresh air.

Here is how I pack the bowl !

Need help please ! Thanks a lot !

you don't need to over pack but there is not enough tobacco in that bowl.
pack it just above the rim and tap gently down till just below the rim of the bowl.

If you are using a heat management device (like the lotus), a good indication that you packed high enough is if when you pick up the device there is tobacco stuck to the bumps but not the actual buttom.

Also, when you pack it high enough, you won't need to use 3 large cubes like you are using now. You could use 3 to heat up the bowl initially and take one off when its ready. Even then you might want to experiment, as often the right amount is 1.5 large cubes. Unless you smoke like the russians, then just throw in as many cubes as you can

No. No its still underpacked. Loosely sprinkle tobacco in to the bowl SO ITS ABOVE THE RIM, then lightly tamp it so its just below the rim.

Yeah, it can be. I have bowls that hold as little as 12 g of tobacco and bowls that hold as much as 80g.
Anyway, good luck. Let us know how you make out.

@carnalnclynatns : Yep, I will ! A last question : I tried with 2 coals + the windguard but it seems to take long time to get a good dense smoke .. 3 coals burn it all about 20 minutes.. after that the flavor tastes burnt !

2 coals is enough, you think ?

Two coals and the windcover should be sufficient. Make sure theyre completely lit and glowing red. Wait 3 mins, rotate your coals, wait another 3-4 mins. Then start puffing. Remove the windcover. When the smoke seems like its getting thin, put it back on.

Two coals is fine with a wind cover/bowl oven, if your using flats then stand up three along the edge touching the bowl. If straight cubes then just start with three and take one off when it's warm. Heat management takes practice to refine.

So, I tried 2 coals fully heated + windguard : it don't smoke at all.. even after 10 minutes or so..

I'm going to try 3 coals with the windguard and take the windguard off after 3/4 minutes..

If it doesn't smoke at all, you have to pack it higher. It will also help with duration of the session. The coals you are using are large- 2.5cm each side. As people before have stated, sprinkle tobacco so there is a bit more of it in the bowl than there should be, then lightly press it down so that there is like a 2mm gap from the top of your bowl.

Are you using foil or lotus?

@GidroDox : I did it, I put 2 coals fully heated, no smoke..

When I put 3, with or without the windguard, rotate the coals after 3/4 minutes, placed on the edges.. it's burnt about 15/20 minutes.. I don't know !

I'm using the WG2 by FUMO ! (Photos attached)

Uggh, this is why "we" go on about foil.

Why ? This sucks ? I like it ! But I have the problem of Too Hot so it burns all or Too cold with No Smoke

When I'm putting foil on the hookah, I find it a little hard to draw..

And what are the holes patterns for a vortex bowl ?

Yeah, whatever that is, I'd go for something more conventional, like a Lotus or foil. There is a reason 98% use one of those. You say you like it, but you can't get it to work, so why do you like it?

What you have is a phunnel, not a vortex. Standard hole pattern would be to make enough holes over the tobacco, so that the draw isn't restricted (try making more holes, or making them larger if you have problems with this), making no holes over the spire.

Or, if you don't want to bother with mastering how to work with foil, just get a lotus, pack high enough, and you won't need to rotate coals or worry about restricted draw and problems with heat. You'll still need to experiment with how many coals you need in there for it to work property, but you'll get the hang of it very quickly.

Nothing beats foil boss, I own both but foil and a wind cover/bowl oven can't be beat.
