It is similar to this bowl, only one hole instead of 5, I use aluminum foil like a screen to cover the hole by make little holes in it, then pack my tobacco on top.

Yeah, I think my hookah is a persian galyan but I really like it, all-natural and small-sized.

Actually both Anise and mint have been found to ameliorate respiratory difficulties.

Just do a web search for mint or anise and their relationship to respiratory issues. You'll find a ton of info. Mint has a well documented antihistamine effect.

Heres a link to get you started.

Thanks I know that some have benefits but was curious if "smoking" it will bring such benefit? I did search on hookah but it is the usual literature that explain the toxins and how they are "more" in hookah compared to cigarette, etc. I think hookah has been there for a long time ago, I was more curious about damage prevention. If I think about it, depression is the second modern disease - anxiety and sleep troubles are wide spreading too. I just say from my trials it does not seem as bad, or maybe can be useful. I do not intend to give medical advices but I also do not necessary believe that those emotional problems are by any means less toxic. IMO, the psycho-meds are rubbish, I have seen people suffer on them with no real relief.
What do you think?

Look into history, before the war on all smoke was common in medical books.
Things like smoking Skullcap, Catnip, Mullein, Damiana, Raspberry Leaves, St Johns Wart, Dagga, PassionFlower, Chamomile Marshmallow, Canary Island Broom, Coltsfoot, Valerian root (stinky) ect are known to have beneficial medicinal effects - infact nicotine in the right doses can be a good thing (boosts both epinephrine and beta-endorphin, so it's both stimulating and calming)....but we dont talk about it in this day and age.

Thanks I never knew people smoke those. I had a nice session with new tobabcco in the ball, there was a lot of smoke from this hookah, smoke was light not dark, so I assume the heat is managed right.

I want to try my own blend, what kind of base can be used? I have honey, medical glycerin, can I also use medical alcohol? I prefer to buy from pharmacy grade to avoid allergies. Happy smoking!

aspirating alcohol is very dangerous, alcohol should not be involved anywhere within the hookah (outside the pipe is your choice).

The "base" (not the flavoring) can be made from a variety of things, molasses, agave, honey, and a bit of the glycerin of course. There are a few very good tutorials here on HP

Keep in mind that what we're doing is not technically smoking the herbs or tobacco, but rather volatilizing and inhaling the vapor produced.

Back in the 1970's, there was a very stringent eating regimen called the macrobiotic diet. It involved eating lots of natural, organic vegetables, seaweeds and whole grains and drinking things like bancha twig tea. Part of the diet actually involved smoking a (single) cigarette after eating, on the theory that nicotine is a vasoconstrictor, and would aid in proper digestion.

Nicotine also replicates the action of acetylcholine in the brain, and has been found useful in treating Alzheimer's patients.

That being said, there are many other factors involved, including the known hazards that come from the coal, and the unknown potential long-term hazards of inhaling the chemicals used in producing and flavoring the tobacco, possible fertilizer and pesticide residues, etc.

Smoking anything is not good for you.

^^^ This. I generally use a mixture of molasses and honey- all honey tends to stick to bowls more. I've never tried agave in tobacco, but anything refined cane or beet sugar based (simple syrup, flavored syrups, etc) is bad. It just occurred to me that I've never tried using pomegranate molasses...

Do I mix the above with my tobacco? or smoke them separately?
