Default Kentucky hookah smoker!

hey everyone. im Alex from Louisville, KY. the day i turned 18 i hit up the local hookah bar and was hooked. just bought my first hookah last month. its a 12" Pearl of some kind. still learning the whole heat management thing. practice makes perfect haha. also introduced the whole family to it. its more of a hookah night than game night now. looking forward to learning more and smoking more!

you mentioned you are having heat management issues lol it happens to everyone occasionally for several reasons, 1) what kinda coals are you using? and are you using a cover at all? 2) cant forget you have coals. There are times where i will just forget im smoking hookah and my coals will suffocate in the ash forming around it. I would highly highly recommend coco nara coals and when i mean highly highly i mean you wont be disappointed when you get a big 108+ box. i promise you that all of them will be gone before you even know it. however if for some reason you cant find them or it may be a bit pricey for you i would suggest natural wood coals, be careful when doing so though because some of them are cheap wood coals and cause a lot of ash and are a pain in the ass. Make sure to get a very highly dense wood coal if your going to use them, i usually keep a pack of them for special occasions because i have found a locally made coal that works very very well. As far as covering goes, i will generally put on a tin foil cover/wind protector for a couple min while starting the bowl, when it starts getting a little thicker take off the cover and be sure to keep using the hookah otherwise the coals wont get that extra oxygen you get from sucking and will kill themselfs, about 30 min later you may need to put a cover back on and keep it on to trap in a little extra heat to keep your smoke nice and thick. I hope this helps and if you have any questions feel free to PM me and ill do my best to help you. Enjoy and smoke happy.

thanks for the warm welcomes.

im actually using coco nara coals, Joe, they are great! before, i had quick starts and they just werent my cup of tea. i just need to find something cheap other than a stove top and something better than a torch lighter to get the coals started haha. ill try the instructions you provided next time i light up.

Dusty: the family loves it. especially after they have had a few drink. the parents are telling their friends and so on. last week we had a little get together and i was forced to break out the hookah. it was a huge hit.

alex,

I use the stove top as well and for the most part i dont travel too far with my main hookah, there are several coal starting devices you can use and range about 50-60 bucks. A would imagine a torch lighter is a pain in the ass to start the coco nara coals because they take so long to get started (well worth it), im glad you quickly caught on to the shitty uses of quick starts and avoid them haha it shows you are already becoming an ad-vacant hookah smoker. Would also suggest a wind cover eventually and they run about 15-25 bucks for a decent one.

What hookah bar do you go to? I'm from the louisville area. I have been going to 360 for a couple years and I've been wanting to check out Yafa

You two should join the Kentucky group on here so when the next meet up happens, you are on the KY list!

I saw that you found it. Good.

Lizzyrdd set up the KY meet up last time. Hopefully with a different location, we can get Ohio people to join this time.
