Default Coals. What's good?

What coals are you people currently using? I broke in to a batch of Ultimate cocos i picked up a couple of years ago on the cheap, they must have been from a bad run. Burning way too cool for my likings. I need to branch out and try some new brands. I'm a hot smoker, so cubes are nice. Cocobuzz 2.0 were good last time I had them, but they are pricey.

Someone, I think Carn, said those Japanese silver tabs were awesome. Maybe I'll give them a shot...?

I really like Argelini coals (not associated with the Jordanian tobacco company)

I like the Exotica fingers, I did not like that they were Chinese made, really ashy, and didn't smell too great. I saw UH, has new and improved cubes, hmm, anyone know about them?

What is the best vendor with Ecochas? Last time I searched for them they seemed rare.

320 coals are one of the best coals available on the market. I tried argaleni and cocobuzz and found them to be ok. 320 coals last longer, taste better and have very little ash. I believe it's a new company. I bought them off amazon and got them the next day. I will post the link below if anyone is interested.

Yeah, im not thinking so. Doesnt seem like enough heat. Most cocos are more like 450 degrees ( 800 degrees F).

Welcome to the forum. A couple of things.....

First, contact a moderator about getting a vendor acct, if you wish to advertise in the forum.

Second, please dont advertise in the discussion section of the forum. Thats spam, we dont tolerate that here. Theres a section for vendors to advertise. Keep it there.

Again welcome.

I don't keep coals for a long time and when I do have a couple of boxes I always store them in ziplock bags. Even the box I am currently using is in a bag. Coals, or charcoal absorbs moisture and odours from the air, as in charcoal filters or odour absorbers for fridge or cupboards.

Thats a big nope on the ziplock bag, unless you vaccum pack em to remove the air. Otherwise plastic bags develop condensation which your coals will absorb. Just keep em in the box. ( i store em in the case till im ready to use em)

Honestly, never had a problem with keeping my coals in ziplocks and I do remove the air but when the weather is humid in Sydney, inside a ziplock bag has got to be way less humid.

Honestly never had a problem with NOT keeping coals in a ziplock. ( and Maryland typically has high humidity in the summer) .

But to each their own.

CocoBrico = CocoNara, Titanium Coal & Fantasia Airflow

CocoBrico = CocoNara
Similar in quality & heat output which is about average, not worth the hype or price tag. Ash is grey with slight brown tinge to it, has to be ashed & rotated often as it is prone to black spots I.E going out (rotate every 5 -8 mins).
Does tend to effect shisha flavour when ash goes through the holes on the foil into your bowl. Slightly unpleasant smell when lighting up on coil burner.
Longevity is around 1 hour 10 mins then shift the coals closer together & place wind cover for another 10 mins - dependant of shisha type.
3 -4 flats are usually sufficient

Titanium Coal –
Superior quality to Brico, Nara & Fantasia, stays lit throughout the session. Heat output is consistent. Ash is grey & rotation is suggested around every 10-15 mins.
Slightly unpleasant smell when lighting up on coil burner

Fantasia Airflow
Quality is about average, not worth the hype or price tag. Ash is grey with slight brown tinge to it, no need to ash or rotated. Rather large pieces make it difficult for heat management on medium size bowls. Adding a heat management device or breaking up coals would be a valid point to consider.

As these are large pieces – it does last a long time, I have had a trimoney bowl of Alchemist go for about 2 hours.
1 -2 pieces are usually sufficient

Nakhla 1kg Coconut Cubes which are around 9 USD for 100 cubes and I feel it outperforms all of the above as it is clean burning, longer lasting, higher heat output.
2 cubes on a medium vortex with 15-20g alchemist goes for about 1hour 30mins with foil. Coal rotation & ashing is suggested every 8- 10 mins.
Granted these are cubes & that both heat output & longevity will be different to flats.
Downside, There is an odour when lighting up. Heat management takes a few attempts to get used to.
Only 2 cubes fit in a lotus while a third is placed on top until it can be manoeuvred in after some burning.

Titaniums are made by CocoBrico. Any explanation on why they would be of better quality than their original line?

No theyre not. ( cocobrico are a Starbuzz product) what they are is the product of a
( the) banned vendor. So lets stop discussing them, eh?
