Yeah, ordinarily id have suggested two and a windcover but since OP mentioned that 4 of coals he was using were too much heat and three to little, 3 and a windcover seemed the obvious prescription.

Are you packing it right? And are you putting fresh, red hot, coals on there? Are you placing the coals all the way out on the edge? Are there too many or too big holes in the Aluminum Foil?

Valid questions ( if i were a betting man, the smart money would be on the bowl in question being underpacked), but the fact remains..... a windcover is called for when 3 coals are not enough heat and 4 are too much.

Hmm could you share 1 or 2 pictures of how you packed it? Normally, 3 full sized coals like bricos are more than enough for me without windcover, sometimes even 2 do the work. And this bowl looks oddly shallow for a turk (maybe the angle?). I second carns suspicion that it may be underpacked, I usually just fill it up slightly above the rim and then pat it down just below the rim.

This crown has a low volume and huge holes. The hot air flow through the tobacco is then very strong. Smaller amounts of moist tobacco in the crown also can not cool the tobacco itself. So the amount of hot air flowing through the tobacco is large - that is, too high a tobacco temperature.

The problem is always the same - to estimate and then to maintain a constant temperature in the laden tobacco (about 150'C - 170'C). Usually, this is done by moving the coals away from the tobacco or by using a strong thermal insulator (for example, a coarse aluminum foil folded over several times - 2x-3x). Or by changing the number of carbon - as the colleagues wrote above. All this depends on the set of your hookah. Even the diameter of the hose has a great influence (the flow or the amount of hot air that you pull through the tobacco).

It would help to photograph your entire set after loading the tobacco. We could all see how far your carbon is located. Do you also use a heat-managment system or aluminum foil only?
