Default Coco Nara coals not burning right

Hello all, long time no see.

I recently bought two packages of Coco Nara coals. Usually, when I light my coals they have ash around them of course, but the ash usually slowly falls off and settles as coals burn. As well, when I take coals off to ash them on ash tray, the ash will simply fall off and I put coals back on to rotate. Recently with this pack however, I've noticed out of the past four sessions that:

1. They feel lighter? if that makes sense. They feel like that really light rock (forget the name)
2. The ash after burning on ring burner, is a more solid white color
3. Most important. The ash after burning on the coals for a bit, will literally create a coat around the coal that is so dense that the coals actually are not heating the bowl. I have to take the coals off every 5-10 mins and actually scrape the ash off with tongs to get them to be red again.

This is making the smoking session a sort of pain and when I check the shisha after words its not even all the way burned through.

Are both the packs I got duds or something? Any insight would be great.

Smoke on! -Shai

Hi Shai,

Coconara has had some issues with irregularities in shape and size and inconsistency in heat output, but in my experience it wasnt anything that couldnt be managed with a windcover. Personally, i dont ash my coals. If it happens naturally when i rotate them, so be it. I manage heat with the windcover, not ash. If youre not using one in your sessions, give it a try. It’ll help.

Happy smoking.

Yep, both fine choices. I use whatever’s handy, cocobuzz, cocourth, cocobrico, coco mazaya, fumari, medwakh, black diamond, naras....

You need to try Titanium Coals. The XL ones, if you're using a normal sized bowl and 3 of these coals, will keep the bowl good easily for 1.5 hours, ive had it last a bit longer before. Theyre easily the best coals ive ever tried.

Regrettably, those particular coals are the product of a ( THE) banned vendor. Yes, Thats still a thing. bad form to discuss him or his products in the forum

Coal must not be freely on the crown. It must at least occasionally pass through the stream of air. Burning is a chemical process that burns oxygen. Therefore, it is necessary to pass through the pores of coal at least occasionally air. Coal is virtually burning and keeps its temperature warm. It greatly helps to cover the coal, but in that case there must be at least a small air draft through the side openings of the cover. Then, of course, higher temperatures are produced in the crown, so be careful. If it is only in the open air and indoors where there is no air draft, the charcoal can quickly turn off.

Finally, the seating at the smoke is also ended - you leave the carbon loosely laid down, and it will go out in time (it will not ruin the dust but stay firm inside).

It's all a matter of chemistry or physics, ha ha.

By the way, I use coconut carbons 2.5 x 2.5 x 2.5 cm. Manufacturers: Tom Cococha and Cocobrico. It also depends on where you come from. Not everywhere it is possible to buy the same brand of coal.

Tried a pack of C-Nara flats, was kinda disappointed as it would keep going out or develop black spots very quickly.
I have been using Nakhla cubes (flats are not easily available).
Been pretty happy for past 6 years with it unless JTI stuff that up too.

i have never liked coco nara. They always gave me those problems. The best coals i've ever used are Titaniums. I get Titanium, "The Cube". i know i already mentioned this in the post but if you can somehow get your hands on it, The cube is an XL size coal. 3 of these coals have last me a 1.5 hour hookah session with multiple friends.

Other than titanium i tried coals from a company called Golden Desert. Those were pretty good.
Red Cube i think i had one time. Those never gave me a problem.
NeverxHale ive heard mixed reviews but definitely better than Coconara
