Talking Newby problem, I can't get my Nakhla to smoke well!

I know I know. Nakhla right. I bought a 250g batch of Nakhla chocomint and while it's very dry I can't imagine that's the end-all problem. I start out fine, decent clouds, nice burn. After give or take fifteen minutes I start getting poor clouds and harshness.

Here's my setup. I'm using a typical Egyptian bowl with heavy duty foil, normal thumbtack hole pattern and all. I tried packing it loose and packing it tight. I tried two and three cocos, sometimes on their belly, sometimes on their side. Sometimes with a windcover and sometimes without.

Regardless the same issue plagues me. I don't have this issue with other shishas even other Nakhlas I have.

Help is most appreciated!

How much of a gap, if any, did you leave between the tobacco and the foil?

This is how I treat my Nak and it hasn't failed me yet....Get a large egyptian bowl, pack it dense and over packed with the tobacco, press down. Cover with foil and do your holes. If you can try to use a toothpick and go all the way down to the bottom of the bowl. Put it on your stem over the bowl weiner. (-flips a nickel to IMC-) Since I use CocoUltimates, I put two coals on the edges, put the windcover on, wait a few minutes, rotate, put the windcover back on, and enjoy. If you notice the tobacco getting too warm take off the windcover for a few minutes and rotate the coals. If it's not heating up enough for you even with the windcover on for a few, add another coal. Usually two are great for my preferences.

first, are you using an actual egyptian bowl or are you using a mod bowl?

two coals and a windcover should be enough heat.

do you ever rotate your coals or play with your windcover or do you just let everything sit till it becomes burnt and awful?

Twitch laid it out for you. If you're getting good results from other Nakhla tobacco, perhaps the Choco-mint you have was improperly stored.

does it seem overly dry compared to other (non-Mizo) Nakhla tobaccos?

Thanks for the responses! I always pack just shy of the lip, in other words I don't let the foil touch. I''' try what SluggishTwitch said sounds helpful! I generally get the smoke started by inhaling (not too hard) but I think that may be an issue too. I store my shisha in airtight plastic jars, out of the sun, so I don't think that is the problem. It definitely is more dry than my previous Nakhla experiences but not to the point where it seems detrimental to the smoke.

could've been stored improperly by the vendor, too- if it's too dry, you can try adding just a bit of honey or molasses and a small dab of glycerine- mix it up and let it sit in the jar for a few days, stir again.

You're saying that it's not detrimental to the smoke, yet you're posting because of detriment.

If it's drier than your other Nakhla tobaccos, and you don't have trouble with Nakhla in general, it stands to reason that the problem could be in the batch of tobacco itself.
