Hi Guys, thanks for the response. I'm having trouble uploading pics at the moment.
Have you tried the brand of shisha tobacco ? Is the brand that heat sensitive
I tried the phunnel/funnel bowl as the fine cut tobacco tends to fall through the holes on a egy bowl.

A brief description of packing.
After mixing the shisha/ tobacco in the jar I sprinkle pack in the bowl then pat it down slightly making sure its not too dense whilst being below the rim/edge of the top of the bowl. Thereafter either 1 or 2 layers of HD foil and an array of small holes.
I have tried coco cubes & coco flats and have not had much luck.
Sadly, heat management devices are not easily available in South Africa.

have not tried lavoo tobacco, sounds liek your pack is probably fine without pics to go by. you still didn't mention if you use a windcover, sometimes 2 coals and a windcover can dial the heat in perfect where 3 is too much.

I will try 2 coals with & without a wind cover with the flat & cubes coco coals the edge of bowl & hopefully get success (I am smoking in the garage with no breeze to effect the coals).
I have mixed this brand with AF orange & it goes well.
Maybe I should add some honey to prevent it from burning, what's your suggestion?
I have to get this right (coz I bought 2 tubs of it).
thanks for the tips thus far, I appreciate it.

wind covers are for keeping the heat around the bowl more than for actual wind. Once you get the heat management right, there is no reason you should have to add anything to keep it from burning. If it is a sensitive tobacco, make sure your pack is right, foil is tight and not touching the tobacco. when you put your coals on the bowl let them sit one minute then rotate them. After that let them sit about 3-4 minutes before you start smoking. sometimes if you start pulling too early it will burn the tobacco.

So I took your tips, played around & had success for about 30 mins.
I think one needs to have a good bowl that is suitable with heat dispersion/retention.
In my set up, I heated the phunnel bowl, rotated coals on the edge often, used 2 layers of 2 HD foil with small holes.
If the tobacco gets to hot it will burn easily as there isn't much syrup- if you taste the tobacco burning , STOP. Pull off the coals / adjust the coals until the bowl cools down a bit thereafter continue puffing away.
I think a heat management device would be beneficial.
Thanks Stabbins for your insight.
