Default Please!! Help me pick my first EVER KM

Hey so I'm finally going to upgrade and roll with the big boys. Planning on buying my very first KM it this week. Just wanted to know which one I should get, there are so many to choose from and I can't decide. Would you suggested one with a cooper/bronze downstem ?.

Thanks for the help

I would recommend stainless steal.

KM Kafe. Solid brass KM with nickel plating. It has nice simple lines, is just the right height to use while sitting and is built to last. It appeals to my sensibilities.

The good thing about KM's is that they all smoke equally well to one another- so the only call you need to make is which one looks nice to you.

ugh ugh ugh ugh. I hate reading this. If copper is safe enough for water pipes in homes, its safe enough for hookah. even if youre putting coals directly onto your downstem it's not going to release anything. even then its not going to. Copper and bronze are good pipe materials that won't harmfully oxidize like iron does. Stainless is good too. Get a pipe you think looks nice and will last. I definitely suggest full cast if you want something that will out live you and a couple generations of your family.

Most of my smoking is in the mother land,Iraq, afghan, while deployed. All the pipes I've in countered are mostly stainless, although I have seen a slow change to cooper bronze down stems. Hope this helped some.
I'd like to know how you're smoking that this would be a concern. Copper downstems are safe. /end

As far as what KM to get, assuming that you haven't already bought one considering this thread is almost 3 weeks old, I'd suggest a tri-metal or a Kamanja Wheat, beautiful models. The brass Kafe is also a very nice and solid model, I just prefer the tri-metals and the Kamanja Wheat.

KMs smoke the same, so find one in your budget that YOU like the looks of best.

Check out UltimateHookah and get a 30% KM code, that should help keep things within a good price range.

There is nothing wrong with the materials used for KMs. So the issue with smoking out of copper is mute. Tons of hookahs have copper, and if it was an issue, they wouldn't still be made with copper.

nope. nobody answered his question. Not one person.

Like dan said. If it's a km it'll smoke relatively the same. Pick one you like the looks of and is a price you can afford.

If you want a KM stick to the kafe / brass / tri metals....if you want one of the stainless ones might as well get a madgy zaiden or caravan. And spend extra on smokables...

I'm going disappoint HookahMarines, but most of the pipes sold to Americans in Iraq or Afghanistan are cheap, chinese, and a waste of money.
There are some turkish rigs (mostly nargilem), and some mugals (same kind sold on ebay for cheap).

As for copper downstems, they will never get that hot. If they did, your water would boil. Remember, specific heat of metals are quite low, thats why copper makes an excellent heat sink in other applications.

As for actually using a copper downstem-ed hookah, they look pretty, but my experience is that it really doesn't matter if its copper or not. I did a test on 2 KM beasts, one with the copper downstem and one without, with the same bowl and tobacco and coal set up, side by side, and there was no noticeable difference. In fact, that comment about them looking pretty is interesting, you will not really see the downstem for the most part when its in use.....

Now for the actual stem, I prefer the looks of brass and the trimetals. I prefer a solid hookah that isn't prone to damage, this limits my choices, and you'll find that your preferences will do the same. Just remember, for the most part, they all smoke the same.
