I had a covered burner, and it took 25 mintues to heat the coals, I finally got to a walgreens and picked up a 1100 watt sylvania, in less than 10 minutes they are glowing. amazing!

If you can not find a coil burner I am sure they have little camping stoves of some kind in spain. any type of small white flame stove would work like this one.

http://www.google.com/imgres?q=small...t:429,r:14,s:0

something like that with a metal screen of some kind would work just as well. I am sure that somewhere in Spain they have something like that.

would too much heat dissipate if you tried using a cast iron cooking pan on the glass top?

A Gorge Foreman grill will not get hot enough. If you can't find a burner with the bare coils, then do as dragonflymike says and get a camp stove.
I use a camp stove and my coals are ready in 4 minutes.

They don't get hot enough. My lady friend brought home one and I got all excited and then 15 minutes of heating later and they didn't have any red at all on them.

Those things barely cook food, I highly doubt they can heat coals. If you can't get a coil burner then get a camping stove. That will heat your coals up plenty.

Possible but also doubtful... propane grills work just fine but then again it is an entirely different beast.

Formans would not be able to start coals since coals require a more direct heat than the way a Foreman operates. If you can't light a piece of paper on fire with a Foreman (which I've tried), you can't light coals.

I got mine from Walgreens. Sounds really weird you couldn't find one at wal-mart. Worse comes to worse you can go order one online.

I live in Mckinney, TX. I got mine at Walgreens. I looked around and in this area, they are not at every Walgreens.

My hotel has a glass-top stove so it's going to be quite interesting tonight when I come back from touring the city to sit down and have my hookah. I checked out the stove and it already have circular abrasions/stains from the pots. I have no interest in going to a Walgreens and picking up one of those single coil burners as I have reached my maximum traveling storage capacity.

I do have the same Cuisinart toaster in my hotel as I do at home and it has a defrost option, which I've never used because I don't freeze my bread. Don't know the internal temperature of the coils but I can give it a try to heat up my coals, granted, my expectations aren't high and toasters are cleaned easily. I rather risk the $50 toaster than an expensive glass-top stove.
