Default The Revolution Bowl (UPDATED WITH NEW DIAGRAM)

I think that this would match if not exceed the performance of the phunnel. it would also be suited for smoking smaller amounts of shisha. the hot smoke and air going directly underneath the shisha would also help to heat it. I'm making this bowl. I had this idea before but had never thought of making it in 2 pieces. what do you guys think? I'm thinking the bowl will be ceramic and the cup for shisha would be glass

That looks pretty cool, but i bet it would be expensive. You might need a little more coal to keep the heat constant..? But the shisha probably would not burn, that's pretty sweet!

Looks, cool. What holds up the "cup with shisha"?

I was thinking the same thing. I wouldn't mind testing it out. How are you planning on building a prototype?

I'm thinking of making a version that is just the shisha cup insert that fits inside a regular bowl. I dunno though, I'll have to look into using the kiln at school or something. I'll figure it out... haha

if its just a cup, shouldn't be a major problem.

whats the percent shrinkage? I heard somewhere its somewhere as high as 25%

hmmm, since it will be two pieces.. you could make the cup for the shisha AND a cone type thing that could fit over the middle hole(like a funnel). So you could sell it in three pieces and market it as a multi functional bowl. Also you could put something like a screen over the middle hole and possibly use it like a regular bowl, although im not sure the last one would work.

% of shrinkage depends on the type of clay used and I beleive the length of time fired.

remarkably cups are rather hard to get to stay the correct size. mugs (2 slabs) are slightly more stable, but have other issues.

the plans look good, but also seem rather complexe for what it's trying to adcheive. Not saying it wouldn't work, it may just be the next "best" method out there.

I would think glass inside would conduct the heat better and possibly be slightly easier to work with than a dual clay system.

I don't know about glass as far as a smoker goes. I find glass is very temperamental when it comes to heat. Once it gets going, it'll hold a lot of heat and without proper care, burn everything

This looks like a really great idea. I have to say. I think it would work pretty well. I dont see why not. Are there holes in the cup? I think if there wasn't it would restrict airflow, or you'd have to pull harder to get the smoke up and out of the cup.

Yea, Id patent it. You already did a public disclosure though, so I think the time is ticking. You have to patent it within 30 or 60 days. If you are interested, talk to a patent lawyer in your area. They can give you a consultation for free usually, and then you can patent it yourself (if you are intrepid).

Full patent costs $500, but you need to do your own research and figure out how to write. A lawyer would cost about $2000-7000 dollars, but they would do it right.

Anyways, cool idea! Have to let us know how it smokes.

No, there are no holes in this theoretical cup, so that the juices stay inside. As far as pulling harder, my thinking is that it couldn't be too much harder than a phunnel bowl, as you are still pulling the smoke up and around an obstacle.

Honestly, I am going to be happy when I can just smoke out of this bowl. If people want to make money off of my idea, I can only hope that they remember what diabolical genius thought it up.

edit: That is, if it works...

if you get this made i would easily buy one off of you, i have been trying to think of ideas like this as well so thanks for the inspiration!

and i think you can get the clay to shrink less if it has sand mixed in but im not entirely sure. ill try to ask one of my old ceramics teachers today when i stop up at the highschool to talk to some other teachers i need to chat with

This is my first time replying to the forum...

Your idea is good.... why not try using a wide or home made bowl and make a cup out of foil, try it, and see if it works?

YES... see... I had the original, very rough idea but you guys are helping a lot. I am definitely going to make a bowl out of foil to try it out conceptually. Nice first post man haha
