I have several of these electric coals and have had great sessions with them. They may not get as hot as regular coals but they do work and my sessions have been pure flavor with absolutely no tastes other than the tobacco.
Sure I dont get huge clouds, but i get tons of flavor and acceptable clouds.

nice to know.. i'm not too fussy on huge clouds so dont mind compensating them for flavour.. sounds like it could be a decent buy then

I have black, gold, and silver ones on the way. If anyone in the Northern US or Canada is interested in one without paying the cost of shipping a single one from China, let me know.

(I hope it's okay to post that)

I'm not a professional hookah-goods retailer - just a hobbyist/ hookah enthusiast who sees the value of buying in quantity

I agree, the flavor is awesome. However, I don't like having to mess with the cord. I use a windcover to maximize heat, but can't find a way to consistently and safely run the wire so the coal lays flat and in the middle. Any ideas?

I've had two fairly personal experiences with these things insofar as friends of mine have bought them. One stopped working after about two weeks when it developed a crack and the second one exploded after about a month of regular use. No one was hurt but frankly that is a scary enough occurrence to make me stay clear of these damn things.

I'm of the asian persuasion and don't really give two craps. I can take a good yuk like anyone else when joking around. "Nono! Not my shitty chicken!"

But, I will pass you a mean samurai glare if your comments or actions are meant to hurt.

As to the device, I'm not sure I can get my mind around the whole electronic hookah thing. Kinda loses its charm, fun. Balancing the traditional -vs- safety/health thing is a tough one.

I just can't see using one of these .. I would be afraid it would explode or someone would trip over it, or something like that!?

The only martial arts I know besides the rudimentary judo they teach in hand to hand combat is Kikshinrun. I'll have to learn that samurai glare from ya.

As to tradition, flavoured shisha has only been around for a little more than two decades, but I don't see many people smoking double-apple that they're not being traditional

on the positive note, if someone does trip the wire you wouldn't really have to worry about coal marks and stains on the carpet

true - spilled burning coal makes quite a mess. If the hot ceramic hit the floor though I would think a cheaper carpet would have a melt spot in it pretty quick. Probably not that deep, as the exposed surface of the ceramic allegedly gets to about 100 degrees C as compared to combusting coal at 550 - 700 degrees C.

(As I understand it, the air passes through the far-hotter centre of the device so it isn't just the bottom surface heating the air that passes through it)

For those accustomed to imperial, not celsius, 100 degrees C is the temp of boiling water. Imagine a *** of boiling water dumped on your rug - then ignore the afterdamage from the water soaking into the fibres. Temperature-wise, if one did drop the thing on a floor but was quick with the tongs to retrieve it, I would *assume* the damage would be less than coals from a tipped hookah (and yep, I've had friends trip on hoses and send my hookahs arse over teakettle from time to time)

If you could have this run on a separate battery pack or a series of batteries, you'd have THE most convenient portable hookah. The Hobo wouldn't need an astray, just a battery pack bolted to the side.

Of course, that's assuming this product is reliable and that the energy consumption could be met with common batteries.

Regardless, it's fun to dream, yeah? There has to be a way to cook the shisha in a portable without messing with coals and ash.

Judging by the picture, I don't think they've ever used a hookah.... but again I could be wrong. It would be sweet to see one in action to see if I should be afraid or not.

I just hooked one up without shisha in the bowl to see about this 'electric taste' some have mentioned.

This was a new one, right out of the box.

I left it plugged in for 10-15 mins to burn off any grease left in the mechanism from manufacturing (similar to plugging in a brand new soldering iron).

I took a pull on the hookah, and am pleased to report no taste whatsoever - just warm air.

smoking nakhla peach with it right now. It definitely benefits from a wind guard to warm the air around it between puffs, but works well. We'll see how the quality holds up.
