Default Tangiers? I don't get it....

Ok so I'd been hearing so much about Tangiers, I finally broke down and ordered a pack of Passionfruit... and I don't get it. So far I've taken two stabs at it (acclimated about 6 hours) first packing it the way HJ describes in his video by piling it on there and smashing it down with the foil. It tasted burned... go figure. Next I went back to the way I pack everthing else, sprinkling it into the phunnel then lightly patting it down to ensure no foil contact, this time it didn't burned but the flavor or smoke was in no way impressive. It tastes like a lightly fruity something with a good bit of sour, which I can't say is bad but doesn't taste anything like a passionfruit. Anyone else experience this with this flavor? Anyone have any input to my methods? I'd love to unlock this amazing flavor that everyone raves about from Tangiers....

eh, i didnt like tangiers regular in most my trials....but i like the lucid line which can be packed normally....and its quite potent in clouds and most importantly, flavor.

sorry i left out important details:

It's Tangiers Noir line, packed in a small phunnel, with a single layer of reynolds foil, I used 3 CH QLs initially spaced evenly but it got hot way quick so i switched up to 2 placed across the bowl and rotated every 5mins or so...

the shisha never really smelled like soy sauce or had a weird smell, but i let it air out, the shisha smells pretty good and i just wish that the flavor was more in line with the smell (I've eaten but never really bothered to smell a passionfruit so I can't say if it smells accurate or not)

Tangiers Passionfruit is a fking joke. I ordered some of it previously and hated it. It didn't smell odd at all, but it did smell fairly flavorless. I gave it about 8 tries, and I was never able to get it to smoke properly. Traded it off to a fellow HP member and he didn't like it either.

Smoke was harsh and flavorless and non-thick.

Tangiers is very hit and miss. (go with lucid line if you must buy Tangiers, imo the average person won't enjoy the unwashed normal line if they're used to smoking washed shisha)

That's what mine tastes like...I liked it, I thought that is what it's supposed to taste like...I've only tried Passionfruit juice from a can when I was in Australia and the Tangiers tasted fairly close...

I haven't had any luck with regular Tangiers in my phunnels, but I packed it similarly in my vortex and it's been very good...Hole pattern is basic with 16-18 toothpick-sized holes on the outside, going to the bottom of the bowl...6-8 toothpick-sized holes on the inside/middle, going to the bottom of the bowl...8-10 tiny holes between the outside and inside rings...Put 3 CH naturals and it's good after 2 minutes...

Don't blame yourself man. Bad sessions happen more than good sessions.

acclimate it until you smell it when you walk back into the room. Mine is pretty well set now but when I walk into the kitchen and the first thing I smell is the aroma, its ready. I love popping the tops off, makes the room smell fantastic. Kashmir peach fills nearly the entire house.

I have found that overpacking turns it into shit. I never let my tobacco touch the foil. Not even tangiers. I pack the tobacco just under the top of the raised center..bout a 1/16 below it. Cover with a single layer of foil and throw on 3 1" pieces of exotica and boom im smoking a perfect tangier session.

Overpacking ftw.

Best bowl ever. The foil was lightly pushed down onto the tobacco. Amazing flavor, huge clouds, and not a single sign of a harsh hit. Keep in mind, that last image was from the FIRST pull, maybe 20 seconds after placing the coals.
