what: tobacco and how many of what coals are you using? Is your hookah leak-free or does the hose have a hole in it?

First of all fix the leek from your hookah with some rubber tape or wet paper, and well in my experience I get better clouds of smoke (thick ones) with better tobacco like Al Fakher for example. Also you should check the amount of holes you put on the foil, try to make 3 to 4 circles of holes, but small ones so you don't get ash inside the bowl.

alwaha or starbuzz should both produce great clouds.

Theres really no reason to avoid ash into the bowl.. A normal ammount of ash will not affect anything.. Ash doesnt give any taste .. Sometimes having many small holes instead of a few little bigger, can be bad.. cus ash can block the very small holes instead.. and 2 small holes wont give as good airflow as one bigger for example..

I use the same coals and for some reason some rolls don't seem to burn as hot, my suggestion would be to try a wind cover.

just like a computer problem, you need to start with the most simple fixes and go down the checklist, it could very well be a leak, if you've ever had a leaky hose, you knoow just how much it affects the session.

You're shisha might have dryed a bit, if it is so it can't provide as much smoke as it used to, unless increasing the heat it gets, but this can lead to burn the shisha.
You should try adding some honey and glyerin to the shisha and let it absorb it for a couple of hours.
The honey is for the same purpose as molasses in the shisha and glycerin just increases the amount of smoke.
Be careful, don't put to much of these things on the shisha, if I'm right a half teaspoonful of both seems to be enough for like 100gramm of dry shisha, however others might prove me wrong.

fix up the leaks and holes... make sure it airtight... and if it isnt you might need a new grommet.
