Interesting. I have never had a screw on vase nor have I ever had this particular hookah but the concept is sound. I have heard good things about the seal they provide.

They work well, you wont have an issue with the stem leaning on the vase, however it can be a pain in the ass to undo sometimes...

Also, replacements are harder to come by...so be careful

If I'm not mistaken, my friends syrian style hookah is a "screw on" one too.
I just saw it once, but I didn't had the time to try it out.
I would still prefer the regular one tough, since the base can be replaced more easily.

I only ever had one problem with screw-on style vases.. if it is glued on... eventually from wear and tear the glue becomes weak and it had to reglued and siliconed... but that was on an acrylic base

I've had my eye on a screw on Syrian at a market near work. I'm sure I'll break down and pick it up soon.

one of mine are screw on, just some advice for you, make sure when you take off the vase, the ball bearing from the purge doesn't fallout, it happened to me and i used duct tape now instead of a purge valve

.....confused so im approaching it like this.

1) How did you separate the base from the stem?
2) How did the method in step 1 cause the purge valve BB to come loose?
3) Why don't you just buy a BB for dirt cheap?

I"m sorry if im being ignorant but can you explain how the vase/stem screwing together relates to the purge?

My MYA hookah has a screw on vase. It's more secure and easy to clean. Offers a better smoke. The only issue I've encountered was sometimes I overestimate/underestimate the amount of water needed, and once you set the coal, its a lot of work to unscrew and adjust without making a mess.
But other than that, their gggggrrrrrrreeeeeeeeeeeeaaaaaaaaaatttttttt!

I would like to say that the middle 2 comments I disagree with, but the first is true and latter has happened w/ me too and its a bitch...

It is more secure by being more stable.

It isnt any easier to clean, its just AS easy.

It doesnt provide a better smoke, just another method to attach a stem on a base.

I don't feel that a screw on should seal any better than a grommet. Assuming said grommet is of the proper size.

I have smoked out of the specific on the link. The downstem is a bit narrow so pull is a bit tight. The screw on part seemed really sturdy. When i was unscrewing it it seemed like a prety tight seal. From close up it is a beautiful rig ( i love clear bases). and smoked really well but i personally like the draw a bit looser

EDIT: I have to agree with photoliger that if the base breaks you are basically screwed as well. i've never seem that type of screw-on base for sale anywhere online and am sure you'll have a hard time replacing it

It might be the hookah itself that smokes better then. Thats the only one I have that has a screw on base, so I gave credit to that.

Good to know though, thank you.

If you want an easy draw, get a KM plain and simple. But if you want the best goddamn hookah on the planet, get some syrian brass. Its durability amazes me and if it were made out of something weaker, it would have been broken 10 times over by now.

Ohhhhhhh I would LOVE to get one of those screw-on brass syrian hookahs!

*drools*

No worries about it screwing on ... just be careful, don't torque it on!

I personally love my screw on base. No real problems at all, except yesterday when i tried milk in the vase for the first time and i had to take off the stem with everything set up and the coals lit... not the easiest thing in the world, but it could have been worse. Only other annoyance ive had was when some of the semi clear paint started chipping off the vase around the threads of the screw on mechanism, but that never really interfered with my smoking sessions. Overall, i like it a lot better, and feel safe carrying around the hookah without having to worry if the vase is going to fall off.
