Default Ice trays...helpful? no?

I'm looking to buy a KM here pretty soon. I was wondering if the ice trays on the chillers or any other model such as the Masha'al are helpful? Do they get annoying after a while?

No personal experience with "chiller" stems, but with science as my witness, I vote no! They may have an extremely marginal effect on the temperature, but I truly doubt it is noticeable.

Save your money. Ice in the base will do the exact same effect.

Alright then. Those were sort of the answers I was expecting. So regarding KM's, leaving out the pipes with the ice chambers, which ones seem to be the way to go? Are any of the tri-metals more or less durable?

I have a KM ice and the chiller works well. I feel more of an affect by putting ice in the chamber than ice in the base.

I think construction-wise tri-metals seem to be built similarly; they are brass cored which is the important part. All depends on aestetics from there I suppose.

If you want the coolest smoke with 0 harshness get an ice chamber and learn how to manage your coals.

I've smoked out of a few chillers and have noticed no difference. I think ice in the base is just as effective!

I have a KM Chiller and havent used it for almost a year now the regular KM stem works the same. That goes for most of the KMs too. But maybe its just me but when I smoked out of a Tri KM I felt an easier pull and smoking much smoother if that makes sence.

I've noticed the KM Ice is a little cooler than the standard Km with ice in base.

why do you wanna cool the smoke that much? More Ice = cooler temp = more smoke = LESS FLAVOUR !

some flavours can be ok with ice.. like lots of mint example... but try smoking your favourite Da with normal water temp instead of ice cld and you will notice alot more flavour!

I will have to agree with that I smoke DA a lot and notice lighter flavor with ice in the vase

Actually, I tend to get sick if my smoke isn't as cold as it can be. I enjoy the smoke thick, crisp, cool, but still not too muggy and intense. Every time I don't use ice, I get sick and angry lol

I just recently bought a KM Ice and I think personally there is only a slight difference in the temperature of the smoke when you put ice in the ice tray. A lot of times I find myself not wanting to even waste my time putting ice up there because then it's more of a pain to clean up afterwards. I've also noticed that after putting ice in there only a few times AND wiping the ice tray out with paper towels after I'm still getting rust in there. Don't get me wrong, it's a KM so naturally it's a great hookah, but if I had a chance to re-buy my hookah I'd probably go with a tri-metal.

I have never heard of anyone reacting like this because of a slight change of temperature of the smoke.. are you sure this is what you react to or maybe just the few times you have tried it, something was wrong with tobacco / coal or something..

Well, it hasn't happened every time, and I would guess that the times it did, i was using some crappy quick lite. Also, I'm pretty freakin sensitive to nicotine, so that can, but hardly ever does, make me sick. .....hmmm....well I think the point is I hate the really crappy quick lites.
But yeah, I'm often willing to sacrifice a little bit of flavor for a low temperature. I just love that cold, light, relaxing feeling after a long day.
