Default Nargthiles and Sidecars

As some of you all know I am an avid fan of sidecars and and a moderately incompetent racer of the same. What you may not know and what has been unknown to me until recently is that sidecarists are often wild about narghiles and moassel.

A few weeks back I went to a race/rally/jumble and while I was looking at beautiful old enclosed Squire and noticed the a stream of smoke coming out of the top that had the very familiar sent of Paan Rasna flavoured Desi Merli. So I knocked on the door and the owner emerged who to my surprise, turned out to be a Tuetonic gentleman of roughly my vintage visiting from Bremman. He had built a wonderful table to secure his narghile in the sidecar and had taken the trouble to run a power line from the battery to a coal stater. He even had a battery powered fridge and plenty of Ottoman pillows to complete the ultimate portable smoking lounge with room for two.

Equally suprising to me was my discovery that off-road sidecarists share my passion as well. Several lads fed tea and biscuits while discussing moassel and stearing geometry with me.

Another fellow used his EML/Ducati combo to house a custom built 4 hose narghile and mini keg dispensor making for an amazingly unique way to host a picinic.

All in all, got to meet a great bunch of fellows and discover that something are compatible that I never even considered before.

Some world we have!

That sounds like a great time. I mean, a mini keg and multi-hose? You're just asking for a party/picnic (Is that what getting hammered is being called these days? Going on a picnic? LOL), Anyway, I'm glad that you found a secret niche society within your already passionate hobby!

Thanks for the kind comments all. It's good to hear from several of you guys again. Actually I did take some pictures but being really crappy with computers I haven't figured out how to access the pictures yet.

Matt, yes, I mean sidecars or "hacks" as some say attached to motorcycles.

Anyway, what was so funny was that the guys that I ran into were not the typical 20 somethings you think of as narghile fans but guys from the 30s to 50s.

As to picnics well ale here is a little different then it is in say the U.S./U.K. Here it's basically a low alcohol refreshing beverage that basically everyone drinks the same way Italians/Greeks/Spaniards etc drink wine. Binge drinking is rare and frowned on. So yeah, a picnic is basically what you nornmally think of except you can smoke while you eat.

Well hacks can get pretty big as the photos attached show. The one German gent I spoke of had a Busmar so you'll see what I mean. In terms of vintage side cars I basically like Steibs but my tastes are much more towards the high-po, flexible and integrated rigs made by the Swiss, Dutch and German firms. I personally own a Domani and I have pictures of it floating around the forums somwehere.

Wow, those are amazing. I've never seen or heard of something like that. I always thought of a dog riding shotgun when I think of sidecars. haha

I am glad that people are enjoying this sort of thing. Poppa, I see you have an eye for fine English craftsmanship showing you are a man of refinement, practicality and thrift.

As for more photos. It seems I somehow jammed the diskette in the camera and can't get it out. While posting the photos would be nice not getting a chum angry at me for nackering his camera would be even better anyone with tips on get the diskette out without wrecking the gear should drop me a line or post tips.

Well, I dunno about thrift. That particular Watsonian rig retails well over $7K. But if you got the funds, I'd say go for it.

7K for a new, well built rig capable of holding a couple of grown adults is a pretty reasonable price as I see it. Still, they are pretty easy to get for half that used in great shape so if what you want is a fully enclosed touring rig you can't do much better easily.
