Default Green Residue

I was cleaning my AF Syrian the other night and a few minutes after laying the shank on the kitchen countertop I noticed a few drops of green liquid on the counter (under the top of the stem).

Anyone seen this before?

brass rusting ...... normal. Get baking soda, lemon juice and a stem wire brush.... clean very well, then rinse until water comes out clear. you will be amazed when you see what comes out

Exactly, it's not rust per-say, but oxidation. Like TE mentioned, scrubbing it with a wire brush, and baking soda / lemon juice will do the trick to take off the oxidation / tarnish. I used a brillo pad on the outside of my dual tone KM to remove the tarnish. worked like a dream.

dont clean it too often tho - the small oxidation layer prevents further corrosion. So just clean it if it interferes with the taste. It will never corrode so much that it will drop chunks. Trust me I know my metals - Im a blacksmith.

if you dont remove it, it will build up and affect the flavor.

i use a metal wooly on a hanger on the inside to scrub/scratch it off. follow it up with some baking soda and lemon juice.
