Default Nakhla Qass Tutorial

Hey guys, just wanted to share another traditional smoke tutorial with you. Now I am by no means a professional, but I'd like to share with you what worked for me. After several attempts of smoking this VERY STRONG tobacco, I finally mastered a technique that served me quite well and I think you all will benefit from this just as I did if you have any Nakhla Qass lying around...

Get yourself a decent bowl. In my case, I used a Vortex bowl for my experiment. Sprinkle enough Qass in the bowl to find how much you need for a session. Next, dump the tobacco onto a sheet of foil and spread it out so that it's lying flat like a square. Next, take 1/4 teaspoon of honey and pour onto the tobacco evenly. Now wet your fingers and mix that honey in really well. (Glycerin would be great if you have that, but you don't necessarily need it.) Now put on the foil and use a thumb tack to poke 3 rings of holes if you are using a Vortex, otherwise use a standard hole pattern if you are using an Egyptian bowl. Now light 3 natural coconut coals. Place the coals on your bowl and apply a windcover. Let it sit for 5 minutes without taking a pull. Now take some pulls and be PATIENT! Patience is the key. If you aren't getting big smoke, just continue doing what you're doing and it will gradually build. You should taste all out flavour, regardless of smoke density. After 10-15 minutes, look and see how your smoke builds. If the smoke becomes unbearable, remove the windcover and make any changes necessary. Enjoy!!!

I hope this helped!

- Mohamed

P.S. Keep a drink nearby if you aren't used to smoking this stuff because it will knock you on your teezak and make you look like a narghile shaheed if you smoke it like Starbuzz

nice walk through.

i have smoked this tobacco and will say it is very different from a flavored tobacco.

everyone know those huge "pointless" party bowls i think SS sells, this is a great use for it. we used my friends and it allowed 2 full rounds of coals with great smoke.

i use the glycerine and molasses version of rewetting it and found it to work well.

as to the EXTREME buzz, meh i didnt get it and neither did my friend, maybe we smoke too much though.

i will echo though that this will not give you a lot of smoke like flavored tobaccos but like FBD said you will get a lot of flavor out of it even with NO smoke

Pretty damn good. I would suggest mixing what you want in advance and allowing your honey/glycerin mixture to soak into the tobacco. This is what I do with blends like salloum unflavored and other similar tobaccos. I do think that this is a great suggestion and suggest trying it out. Personally I prefer the technique you presented earlier with running hot water over a plastic bag holding the tobacco and honey but on the fly this one has treated me really well.

+1 my friend and thanks so much for the kind words! For this Qass, the package I have here at least, it is very dry but it is quite tender I guess you could say. That is my reason for just mixing in the honey and letting it sit, aside from my other tutorial on Salloum unflavoured whereas I mixed the honey/molasses, placed it in a ziplock bag, ran it under hot water, and beat the bejesus out of it with a piece of wood ...on the contrary, both of these smokes are worth the work put into preparing them

Interesting. I understand what you mean by dry yet supple. Normally with salloum I don't smack it around as one might do with a cheap trollop. Letting the mixture soak in does perfectly fine for me. I agree. Smokes similar to these two products are worth a little extra time and effort.

Wicked, I will defiantly pick some up. I'm also eager to try some Desi Murli but I'm holding off on that one for a while. Salloum seems like a nice halfway between Nakhla and Desi Murli
