Default Is this considered a defect?

Hi guys,

I recently purchased a KM Al Bakr hookah from HC and there is a crack at the bottom of my downstem. When washing the hookah, water fills up in the bulge at the end of the stem. Also, there is a gap between the two tubes at the downstem and it is hard to dry in between the cracks. I'm worried that this will cause my hookah to rust. I've attached pictures because it's kinda hard to describe. Can you guy tell me if these are considered to be defects? If so, do you think HC will be wiling to switch it out for me? Thanks guy.

yeah that seems to be what we in the biz like to call "busted". whoever you bought it from should replace such an obvious flaw.

A friend has have two of those with defects, and the replacements were defective too.

What they did was drill a small hole in the bottom by the part where the hookah sits on the vase and put it in the oven for a certain amount of time. The water inside evaporated and they used JB weld and some sort of clear sticky stuff to seal all the cracks and leaks and it works perfectly now. I wouldn't recommend trying this unless you know what you're doing but it worked for them.

the issue is that many hookah places argue that "hand made" items cannot be perfect and will have defects, they use this statement to justify shitty work or damage a lot. personally i would say it needs to be replaced but they might not.

being some one that is studying metal working as part of my degree i will say that its BULLSHIT to say that hand made items cannot be as perfect as machine made because i know for a fact hand made can be much better than machine made if the craftsperson is skilled

Hookahcompany is really good about swapping stems. You just tell them you are unhappy with the defect and they email you a shipping label, you put that sucker back in the box and send it back.

Unfortunately, I think they may only do this if you haven't smoked from it.
