Default Hookah sessions no longer tasteful.

Hey, I'm new to hookahs and have been doing a bunch of research. Most of the research came from these forums, but it seems as if every session after my very first with my new hookah has tasted stale and like coal.

I clean the stem, bowl and base of my hookah twice in-between sessions with hot water and soap, using the brushes to clean the insides out.

I've tried double-wrapping (Hell even quadruple-wrapping one time) the bowl, etc.

And every single session has been better and tasteless. It might be because I have a non-washable hose that came standard with my order, but I do the best I can to clean that out as well. It seems as if my shisha and hookah are going to waste.

What kind of coals are you using and how are you lighting them?

I got two free packs when I ordered my hookah. All the cover says is, "Quick-Lite Belgium Coals". I usually light them from around the sides, then hold the lighter underneath the coal for a bit.

What type of shisha & where do you store the shisha?
The coals are crumby, but for quicklights a good type

Molasses Layalina is what it says on the box. I got two free boxes with my order. But the first time I smoked the hookah, I smoked Peach flavor. And it was delicious, but after that...Hasn't been the same.

Sometimes I think I put too much in. Just because I like to have longer sessions when I'm smoking with friends.

Make sure you pack the bowl loosely, and go buy some better coals. Also, move the coals around to heat different parts of the bowl so it doesn't burn. Good Luck.

Yeah, I learned that packing tobacco is bad. I slowly sprinkle the tobacco out of my fingers using my index and thumb.

Don't wash with soap. Try hot water and baking soda, lemon juice, white vinegar, or a combination of baking soda and lemon juice/white vinegar. You can add flour to thicken it up into a paste if you need to scrub something down.

If you do wash with soap, rinse the living hell out of it with warm/hot water. Soap leaves residue and doesn't taste good when smoked.

if the tobacco is touching the foil, that is causing your problem.

if you want a longer session just pack 2-3 bowls then swap when there's no taste left.

I can only think of two things that cause this... the first and for most the coals... If you don't wait for your quicklites to ash over completely on the outside you will deff. taste the coals... and if the shisha doesn't taste fresh, try to mix it up more when you open the container... It could just be dry because all the jucies have moved to the bottom... Im almost positive, its the coals though... try letting them light all the way through and if it continues, just buy better coals... If you can get naturals, they take longer to light, and you can't use a standard lighter, But they have no taste what so ever so you just taste pure shisha

What everyone said has been good advice, from looking at your setup I assume you ordered from Social Smoke? Either way, I just got my new hookah/belgian charcoal coals/restocked my layalina stash from there yesterday and I had a whopping 5 great sessions I'm still recovering from. The layalina is the wettest shisha I've used(also my favorite, the strawberry kiwi is incredible) so it can be a bit tough to spread around and not clog up your holes.

I had all of these problems but if you experiment enough, you'll get it right. It can be frustrating, you should've seen how frustrated I was a few weeks ago.

dawn rinses clean no issues, i use it every time i clean my mya which i wash before every session

i had the same issue when i got my mya mini and it was the mya bowl for what ever reason, i took the same tobacco same coals and all and a different bowl was fine. make sure your tobacco is mixed up well and if you can get some nats, once you go to nats you will taste QLs and want to puke (i am told CH qls dont taste but i havent tried them yet)
