Default Bowl Problems

Every time I smoke tobacco I put it in carefully so the tobacco wont burn, but most the times it always starts sizzling at the beginning and at the end there's all burn tobacco on the bottom of the foils covering the holes obviously. I never go above the rim of the bowl and most the times I use 1 layer of foil with normal toothpick sized holes or I use 2 layers with the same hole pattern. I started putting foil around the rims like a little circle made out of foil and that's helped a bit but the tobacco still burns. If it is needed I smoke AF, Al Waha and Nakhla most of the time.

Use heavy duty foil if you aren't already, it won't sag as much as lighter foils. Also, I know u said u are leaving a gap, but I would increase the gap a bit more. I leave 3/16" or so between the top of the bowl and the shisha in most cases.

Well on the pack of the foil it says that it is stronger than ordinary foils but that isn't heavy duty so I might go and get some of that tomorrow. And in some cases leave about 1cm from the tobacco to the foil right?

if its cheap foil, you might need triple or even more layers. on a standard egyptian bowl, the only way i ever got my shisha to not burn was to use two layers of HD foil, so you are proly getting too much heat.

i use 2 layers of regular foil and put it very tight (i rip it while putting it on some times from how tight i pull it)

the only time i get sizzling really is when i smoke tangiers, i might get a small sizzle when i put coals on but not all the time .

as to the gap 1 cm is pretty big but not crazy, i usually do a bit less (probably 5-8 mm realistically, maybe a bit less some times)

Well it's not the heaps cheap foil but it's not the best somewhere around the middle line, might leave about 3-5mm next time I smoke. I'll take some picture of the bowl and all that in the morning so you guys can go into deeper explanation.

Thanks;

I would agree with bradeup, make sure the gap is even bigger and that the tobacco is all flat i wouldnt say compress it as there needs to be a good air flow inside, but make sure non of the tobacco could get caught or stick to the foil at all even if there were some sagging involved.

I would also suggest getting either a vortex bowl or a phunnel. Not only do they preserve the juice of the shisha, preventing burning, the design also helps prevent foil sag from touching the shisha. Probably the best investment you can make in your hookah, IMO.

Are you shaking or tapping the bowl after you pack it? Sometimes this causes the wetter tobacoo to touch/stick to the foil and cause the sizzle...Also, if you aren't already, make the holes pierce the foil only and don't go down to the tobacco...

leave more room betwen foil and shisha without packing it tightly, shisha can expand with heat.
