I know this will come as a big surprise, but Nakhla! When you compare it to most crap passing as shisha tobacco these days, you'll know why I prefer Nakhla.

I've only smoked more than 2 flavors from Hookah-Hookah(10+), Layalina(6) and Al-Waha(5). Hookah-Hookah is only still relevant to me because it works well(usually) in a vortex bowl and its easy to get locally, but for a non-group smoke, I won't touch the shit. Layalina has my current favorite flavor(Straw-kiwi) but has a few flavors that I get NO flavor from and Al-Waha, while not every flavor is great, has always provided me decent flavor and great smoke.

Sorry for the long explanation, but to answer your question, Al-Waha.
This might change tomorrow when I get my assortment of Havana and Nahkla flavors in, but as it stands, Al-Waha hasn't failed me.

For the most part.....Nakhla. It seems that other washed tobaccos taste washed, with the exception of a few.

the problem is there is nothing similar to nakhla. i have tried so many brands and it seems like lately, anything that hits the market is the same stuff, just recycled in another package. Please find me something that you can compare to Nakhla. It's the only brand that I think isn't affected by chemicals, dyes, poor quality tobacco and fancy packaging. The only brand that I think has a similar quality is Tangier's, yet they are 2 very different products.

I am eagerly awaiting a new sheeeeesshhaaa.

The only thing I like about the newer brands is the new creative flavors, but it doesn't always feel right smoking them, like SB, Tonic, Fusion, Potion, etc.

This is almost completely unrelated to the thread topic and merely a reply to your post. I've only tried the Cherry Nahkla and I have a 50gm of Strawberry coming in tomorrow but I've, of course, heard the hype and I do really like the cherry. I think what turns me off from it is that its a stronger smoke, stronger buzz and if I'm thinking correctly - an even higher amount of nicotine. I think the main reason I'm not attracted to it is because it doesn't have any big-name, 'cute' flavors. It has simple fruit/basic flavors.

Just thought I'd add that.
Also, I'm ordering a box of your coals next month - I've heard great things.

Honestly i'd say that I am convinced that no standard setting brand exists. I suppose if I was looking to say what the pinnacle of narghile tobacco is i'd say Fuzūlī or Shooting Star but since that stuff is so hard to get I am not sure that it matters much.

So when I think of standards I suppose I think of stuff that is easy to get and is an ideal representaive of a type (i.e. candyish, unwashed and flavoured, black, washed but realistic etc.)

I suppose in terms of black style moassel my standard is Al Fakher Soft Black

For candyish stuff SB would be my reference.

For washed but realistic Salloum is the reference point for the most part

For unwashed and realistic flavours Desi Merli is my referance point.

Other then that it's all about indivual products rather then brands.

For me I wouldn't say I have a standard brand but more of just flavors from brands.

Nahkla sets my standard for traditional single flavors such as mint and fruits. Starbuzz is my standard for mixed / artificial flavors.

I'm jumping on the bandwagon, nakhla! The combination of taste, smoke, and texture of the tobacco makes it easier to work with and enjoy.

Tangiers Noir - pretty much all I will smoke these days. Nothing else seems to do the trick.
