Exclamation Proper heat management / general setup help

Hello everyone, I have a few questions. I always here of people's sessions lasting over an hour and I can only seem to get mine around like 30 or 40 minutes... So I am wondering if I am doing something wrong, I shall explain my setup

19 inch hookah from ebay, probably chinese (I know, but I am getting a KM this weekend)

2 washable hoses

usually hh shisha or al waha, sprinkled in

holes in a spiral pattern on top of a vortex bowl

2 3kings coals - ql

ice/water in the base submerging the stem in about an inch of water

so is there some type of heat management I should be doing? or could someone tell me how they set up their own hookahs and then I'll try it out?

thanks in advanced

couple things...disc coals aren't really well suited for a vortex. Are u breaking them in halves? 2 or 3 HALF pieces around the edge would probably be better. One thing that will lengthen your sessions is the proper use of a wind cover as well.

hmm didnt think of that, well when my km gets here it comes with a cover and i'll be sure to break the coals up!

I guess one other question... I am almost out of ql's so should I just get naturals? and if so what kind

my only hesitation is that I have a ceramic oven... so what should I use to heat them?

thanks!

I have the same issue I'm unable to use nats at this moment so I ordered 2kgs of ******* Hookah Quicklights they work nicely and are made from the coconut husks I'd go with those. Or you can pick up a single coil burner from Walgrees and light your nats that way.

When you say "holes in spiral pattern" do you mean a real spiral or are you making full rings? I usually make 4 rings of tiny holes starting from the outside in. The packing/ setup also have alot to do with the length of the session.

Also make sure you move your coals around in different spot every so often so all the shisha gets even amouts of coal time.

break your QL's up into 3 or 4 pieces and place them on the outta edge of the bowl and as they die down move them closer to the middle, add a windcover if you need more heat

As for naturals defintly make the step up and get them i would recommend coconara's and ******* hookah coals, both work well

And get a single coil burner and your set

Quicklights dont usually last longer than 30-40 minutes anyway, better off going with naturals, I just made the switch recently and the difference is massive.

There is a very nice difference between QL's and nats. Nat's are just perfect and I sampled the CH nats they were really nice. I just use the CH quicklights though. They are very good quicklights and I don't have to worry about a burner since I don't have a coil one anyway. I use two QL's on a small phunnel or 3 nats. I'm not sure if a vorttex is much diferent.

alright well I have decided to go with some nats and the burner from walgreens...

hookah-shisha has a few nats to choose from but I have narrowed it down to coconara and exoticas

and I am leaning toward exoticas, would that be a good decision?

I use coconaras, to me they are better. The only thing I dont like about them is the amounts they come in, it would be nice if they came in a nice 1kg box like the exoticas but they dont.

But overall as far as preformance they are the bombdigidy!

I think you need to pack a little more tobacco in as well as some of the recomendations already stated.I've noticed even with washed dripy goopy juicy shisha tobaccos you still need to pack them a little bit and not just sprinkle.Just break up the way you are now sprinkle till slightly full over rim and pack it gently down.do this well your coals are lighting and without coals place on your hookah to make sure you got proper airflow.
