Default Making shisha with Tobacco leaves

alrit guys so the other day I bought the majority of my ingredients for my shisha making journey. I found a block of tobacco leaves (Sultan brand) at my local middle eastern store. the first step is to wash the shisha.... Can anyone give me tips on this?

The store owner at this place told me to dump the tobacco in water for 3 days and change the water every 6 hours.... what do you guys do or recommend?

I've got a pretty long, detailed post making shisha home and I talk about using that sort of tombac so take a look. As a matter of fact, I often smoke it by itself after soaking and it's pretty good although not as flavourful at the real, dark Ishfan tobacco. I would like to suggest a new source for flavourings when making shisha as you want to avoid ones that use alcohol and that place is: http://www.lorannoils.com/Products.a...ame=Flavorings

I used a strainer i let the tobacco soak for a good hour or so then drained the water and let the tobacco sit on my window ( ahh fresh pumpkin pie smell comes to mind..my bad) and i kept checking on it every hour to feel its wetness and when i found it the good consistency i mixed it

oh wow those oils are like 3x more expensive than what im using. Have you tried them yourself? Do they work well?

For that price they better be super concentrated

Loran oils are super concentrated and in the end they go father then most. THey are ideal for making jurak as well because they add no weight/liquid to the mixture. The best thing is that they burn away when you make shisha because they have no alcohol. Anyway the article I put up here as a bunch of sources for really excellent flavours that you should check out.

okay yeah I havn't been using alcohol based flavoring..been using natural flavoring bottles which cost far less than that..but then again they aren't concentrated so it's something i'll have to look in to.

Thanks for the link

I too have used Sultan "Asfahan"

I have made some molasses mixes with it..... I let mine soak for 6hrs or so... and then hung the leaves out to dry until they were just pliable.

I did a wrap with it a year or so ago that smoked well.... something I saw online and wanted to try.... heres a pic of mine.

Dammit.... cant post the pic....follow the link.

Be careful with flavourings in that a lot of natural ones are mostly alcohol so unless they say specifically that they don't use it they most likely do.

Hey lake, that photo is fantastic! I should try something like that and it shows your're a pretty creative guy. Anyway, a lot of great shisha on the market (not much here however) uses just glycerine and honey so you are in good company.

Yeah, Lake is definitely a creative guy!

How do you smoke that? Does it burn? Or do you put a coal on it? Sorry to ask such a dumb question, but I really don't know they answer and I am curious.

What you want is a natural essential oil or syrup with no alcohol based or cereal based fillers. Getting flavourings that are highly concentrated and natural tasting was quite a chore for my me but in the end what I found to work was stuff others told me about. Loran is the only supplier for flavourings that I found on my own and off hand i'd say they work the best although some others a very close. The price difference is actually not much when you consider concentration levels.

You use a coal on it.

You take some of the pliable leaves and trim then to size... then you start wrapping it around the bowl seat and continue till it gets big enough around. I let this set up for a few days to dry out a bit before smoking.

It tastes kinda like Flu Cured Virginia and Turkish... but has that underlying flavor of Latakia without the geranium taste... hard to describe... bit harsh to inhale... but can be done...

You really are an amazing guy Lake in that I doubt anyone else ever thought of doing that tombac. All I ever do is destem it, break it up in bits small enough to fit in my bowl and soak it prior to smoking it or make shisha with it. Given that your way has is a bit dried the taste would change a lot. I guess i'll have to try it out some day.
