Default Natural Coals question

I've been using QL's, but they are pretty disgusting, so looking to find some nats. Can I just get my hands on any natural charcoal?

Whats the best way to light? A little blowtorch?

Get some coconaras, they are the best imo. As for lighting it a single coil burner is what you would want. they sell them at walmart or walgreens for like $10, and there are sooo many members that own one of them im sure, they get the job done. The torch will take soooo much longer and waste alot of gas don't waste your time on it.

This is what it looks like, some may be different

I would recomend ******* hookah nats.... They are just like coconara's and are half the price.... the best coals I've tried are exotica's but they gave me wicked headaches...

Half the price? I'd definitely buy the CH coals over the Coconara's simply because I've heard great things and you get 132 vs. the 84 in the Coconara box.

I have that exact burner and use Shishaco coconut coals and Exotica finger coals. Both work fine and are a million times better than quicklights.

I have to agree about coconara. I light them with a blowtorch, but just because I have it and don't have a single coil burner. I'm pretty sure an electric burner would be better. They have a WAY cleaner burn than QL.

I highloy recommend any coconut coal (so pretty much all the ones that Chadtizzle mentioned), i think that CH instant lites are the best coals out there. They burn like a natty but lite with just a regular lighter. And they are cost effective.

Thats my suggestion. CH Instant Lights.

Cheers guys...it's just a case of tracking these nats down here in the UK. I know of one site, but prefer to buy local if possible. I'll try the camping shop later

You never mentioned you were in the uk.... I think the readily available coals over there are Cocobricos and maybe coconaras. All the same rules for lighting apply though.

Lol, yeah I realised that. Thanks for your help guys. It's typical UK weather here today. Absolutely nailing it down with rain. No chance of going out to hunt for coals today

There are a couple of private label versions of the Olive Wood fingers, I really like them. One brand is Meziab International, They are from Syria, I'm unsure where you can get them locally.

i use CH coals, they are good, different from coconaras a bit (they are more consistent is shape, but lighter, burn a bit cooler but burn longer, light faster but have more smell)

for the price you really cant beat them to much. but since your in the UK it might not be as cheap to get them out there, idk on shipping

as to the lighting method, since its hard to find a coil burner get a camp stove, i have not had good luck with blow torches wince they seem to light the out side and ash them well w/o lighting the inside (to high of heat). if you cant get a stove then try the ch qls they are supposed to be very good for QLs, no flavor (i havent tried them so i cant say for sure). i might grab a box some time this year but i really never need QLs but it might be a good idea to have them as a back up just incase we lose power and just want to smoke right then or go out w/o power or something

Do the ch nats light just like the coconaras? because I light my cocos in my room with a burner and I have no problems with smell or smoke, but the last time I lit my ch qls my smoke alarms went off. I dont have to worry about that with the ch nats right?

ya they light the same as coconaras, they do have a touch of smell and i get a whisp or 2 of smoke off them but not much. never had any issues lighting them inside. the ch qls shouldnt ever be lit inside

I use CH nats , as well. As for lighting the coals, I use the side-burner on the gas grill. Works like a charm!
