Default Help, Fast!

Hello,

Well first i started smoking shisha 1 month ago and that was for 3 days until my first pipe broke (25 euro one from market) Yesturday i recieved my knew pipe (shi-sham european pipe one of the best) i have 6x tangiers and 3x Af and some testers from **********.

Well the problem, first i did AF grape didnt taste like anything ask for help on the chat. And some suggestions were made such as:

Tobacco is old = got it 5 days ago
Coals not lit enough= Maybe first time but second time (new tobacco) i made sure there were glowing red.

Then i thought ok maybe its the phunnel or the tobacco. Resulted that it was none for them seing i switched to tangiers large phunnel head and tangiers guava. Didnt taste like anything again :S

I really dont know what im doing wrong i used the beginners guide aswell.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=k_BCJ1xOQTE

Any ideas?

I might upload a video of me setting up my hookah later on if that helps.

It wouldnt bother if i could get the tobacco round the corner but i do live in europe so shipping is about 54$!!!! So i don't want to waste the tobacco.

Thanks in advance

Pascal Wagner

Try these basic steps.

1. Mix up shisha before packing bowl
2. Break apart shisha and pack loosely.
3. Ensure foil is tight and you have plenty of holes for good airflow
4. Ensure all gromets arein place and you have no airleaks
5. Ensure coals are fully lit and allow the bowl/shisha to warm up
6. Maintain good heat management through out the session

Your really gonna have to play with it to find out what works for you. It might just be a bad batch of shisha.

what kind of coals are you using?

Did you let the Tangiers acclimate before smoking it?

Heat management is just something you learn to do. When I smoke af for example in my small phunnel or vortex I'll put 3 cronic hookah coals on the edge in a triangle pattern and use a wind cover to get it going. Depending how moist it is I sometimes put 4 coals on the edges and let it warm up for about 10 minutes before first pull. After about 10 minutes I remove one coal and put the 3 in a trangle pattern and take a few pulls.

I find that with the coals towards the edge and flipping them ever 15 minutes tends to work for me when it come to af. Like I said this is me and how I pack my bowls. Try 4 coals to start with a wind cover then after warm up take a coal off, flip the other 3 and put them towards the edge and slide on the wind cover.

With my small phunnel I use 3 CH quick lights and a wind cover for AF. I have the3 coals about 1/4 of a inch hanging off the bowl maybe a little less. Like I said poke either more holes or bigger holes. I use a thumb tack and do 3 rings around the phunnel.

did you clean your hookah thoroughly before using it? and are you sure you're getting a tight seal and not just breathing in air? (take the bowl off and put your hand over the top and try and breathe in)

you should always clean something before you use it, even if it is new (would you eat off of a plate that was brand new before washing it?)
sometimes, there can be weird gunk inside of the hookah that needs to be cleaned out before use (try a mixture of baking soda and lemon juice along with your brushes)

just a thought, but it's a possible problem

What about the ball bearings those could be stuck, so let it air dry after cleaning and do a test on all seals like ByronSa said. Sometimes if ball bearings get stuck, you have to do a reverse seal check, put your lips around opening were hose goes into shaft and inhale, that should loosen up any clogged ball bearing, crazy but works.

Just be careful with the AF grape there has been some recipe changes and quite a few people have had ketchup tasting AF Grape Tangiers must be packed down in a Phunnel bowl not loosely sprinkled nakhla and the rest can be fluffed and sprinkled. Rest is heat management but before packing your Tangiers bowl make sure that you give the tobaco a bit of time to breathe or aclimate for the climate is not the same from day to day. Best I found and the most forgiving Tobacco to work with is Nakhla try some double apple it is also forgiving in the heat department. Once you have gotten the hang of it each new make of tobacco takes time and patience to get the management right.
