Question Need Some KM advice!

I recently upgraded from a 20in mod hookah to a 38in KM.. But I was a tad disappointed in the difficulty to get it smoking right.. I know figuring it out and experimenting will take some time but I'd appreciate advice from anyone with experience with these hookahs to make this transition go faster for me. I used a tangiers phunnel bowl, and was smoking Al Fakher lemon mint.. But I was struggling to coax out a decent amount of smoke without harshness. I got decent smoke with 4 coco nara coals, but at that point the shisha burnt so bad I could barely stomach it anymore. Sooo harsh... Ruined my first KM experience.. But with three coals, the taste was fantastic but was lacking the big clouds I was so excited about... Oh, if other menial details matter, bowl was iced, water level about... 1.25 inches above downstem, phunnel bowl scali modded, was smoking with very easy draw.. Yeah, experienced KMer's out there; I'd appreciate your advice!

I belive someone told me that ice takes away from flavor. Did you have ice in the vase?

Yeah I did, base was iced.. The problem wasn't so much the flavor as it was the intensity of the smoke. It just made me and my friend nauseous... Was very, dense smoke.. But to let the bowl cool enough to take a full drag off of it, yielded pathetic clouds.. I was disappointed.

Oh no worries about the space between the foil and the shisha. There was plenty of room.

Hmmm. I'll have to try that. With my phunnel bowl I always did a quick foil scali mod to draw the heat underneath the tobacco before it was drawn. This is interesting but it seemed to work.

I have a 34" KM and a 38" KM, both of which I use my Phunnel bowl, no mod, 3 exoticas.

Works great. rarely harshness, dont really use ice that often.

Depends what you're smoking I guess. Dont forget if you use three coals to put them in a triangle pattern to distribute the heat more evenly.

Right, good call. I'll have to give her a go without ice. Just gotta get my hookah appetite back.. I got food poisoning the last day I whipped out my new hookah for its first smoke, I was so excited... And I ended up throwing up ton.. So now the smell of shisha, and just looking at the pipe is making me sick.. I hate that... Especially cause I ruined a good mix of strawberry kiwi.. I'll never be able to smoke that again without wanting to vomit..

It takes a lot of ice in the bottle to kill your flavor. I ice my hookah often, and have never noticed a drop in flavor, in fact, often times, it smoothes it out some.
