Default Just got my new KM.

It was the double pear stem. But upon it's first light up, I've got some questions about it.

In no way has it really performed like I thought it was going to, and as I am a HookahNoob I'm wondering why. First things first, because to me it seems like a big problem: The purge valve on the stem does not screw in straight, it screws in very lopsided and does more of a spiral motion than straight in (like a nut screwing into a bolt) It's not really supposed to screw in all lopsided like that right? Even when I've got it screwed as tightly as I can get it, I can still blow air into the hookah and purge it.

When I inhale, it also feels very "airy". Feels like the pull shouldn't be as "airy" as this, I've blamed it on this purge valve. I'm also not getting great clouds, you see any video here on HP there's some amazing clouds, not for me. I've got the right set up though, water and ice in the base, hose/bowl/stem are all screwed on as tight as I can get them. I don't think it's an issue with the bowl either, using a Tangier. I've used both 2 and 3 coals and smoked Nahkla everytime. I have read though that I could probably only use 2 and be fine. I'm just not getting the clouds I expected..

Any advice, or other questions on my setup? I really wanna figure out why it's happening, and if the purge valve is indeed messed up I need to give the company a call to see about them getting me a new stem.

Try unplugging the purge-Valve and keeping your finger over the hole (if it changes anything, that's the problem)

Also, nakhla isnt exactly famous for making big fuck-off clouds

You are probably feeling the "airy" thing because the KM has a wide gauge so it makes it super easy to pull, if this is your first KM you probably just got to get used to that feeling.

As for the smoke, make sure your foil isnt touching the funnel in the middle, that will restrict the air flow. I just got my small tangiers funnel bowl yesterday and I had no problems with it.

noob if you have msn chat with video i'll help you out, i want to check some things. the lop sided purge valve can be a problem, if it's screwed in tight, and there is a ball bearing and there is still air coming through you may have a problem with the threads, i have seen this on 2 KM's and I have hundreds if not thousands of KM's that didn't have this issue, but let's explore it. let me know,

You know my friend and I actually did pull off the valve and plug the ball bearing and hole. I guess I can't say there was a HUGE difference. I have seen people smoke Nahkla though, and they had some pretty thick clouds. Also heard that it was capable of pulling off pretty nice clouds cause it was drier, though I'm not sure how true that is. I'd've thought that wetter would be thicker.

I know for sure that the foil wasn't hitting the center of the bowl, so I'm confident I had that set up correct. The bowl sitting on the grommet was a little looser than I thought it should be, though I pushed it on really tightly. I'll improvise next time with a strip of moist cloth to try to close any air gap there.

John - I don't have MSN video chat, though I can try to provide pictures or talk you through what's going on with the set up in some way. If you can think of some other way, let me know.
