Default Rusty already

Looks like you really do get what you pay for. My hookah is already showing signs of rust around the stem.

What kind of hookah is it, and where did you get it from?

It's a Junior Mod hookah. I got it from Hookah-shisha.com

Letting it air-dry will cause a Stainless Steel hookah to rust in about 2 weeks of moderate use.

For anything to rust out in 2 weeks is a sign of crappy materials. My stainless steel rigs have had a couple of years of regular use ( I use them when i'm too lazy to clean the brass rigs i'd rather use) and they have no sign of rust. Stick with a good Syrian, Kahlil Mamoun or Al Ashrey rather then some nameless rig. I hear Madgy Zidan is pretty good as well. A decent narghile should last you several years if you clean it carefully after each use.

I completely agree with you, but i am going off the little flange at the tip of my friends KM Amer downstem. He's had it for about 1 and a half or 2 weeks now, he let it air-dry, and it rusted. it was just the flange though, but i would think it would be made of at least Stainless Steel. I have had some rigs rust on me before, but they were from shops, so they most likely weren't SS rigs.

But KM owners... watch your flanges.
(I hope Scott's is doing OK...)

I have a KM Amer and it is my "GOTO" hookah, no problems with it yet, knock on wood! I usually try to blow out any water that is int he stem or around the flange, before putting it out to dry. I also set the stem upright to let it dry.

I'm just glad it was my "trial" hookah so to speak. I bought a cheap one to see if I actually liked it

My advice to anyone interested in this thing of ours is to try smoking at a lounge or a friend's house before buying anything. If you decide to get into narghile stuff buy a high quality Egyptian or Syrian rig. When you realize that you will spend far more on shisha and coals in a year then you will on almost any rig you will realize it is a fool's economy to try to save money on a narghile. These days plenty of first rate rigs can be had for 80-100 USD so it makes no sense to spend around 50 for something that will perform poorly within a year.

my stargate started showing signs of age pretty quickly, within a week or two the innards were showing signs of rust and general decay. The Outter coat is actually flaking off in certain spots. Grant it, I've had it for maybe 4 months with heavy use.

Is it rust or vertigris (green buildup)?
If it is stainless and not brass then it is a low series/quality. Never, ever, buy chinese stainless; its rusts hardcore. Worse then Rosie O'Donnell's acting carrier.

my hookah rusted really bad not long ago and i have to say that its not a big deal. just watch it and keep it cleaned with a cleaning brush EVERYTIME you smoke and also do it every once in a while if you havent smoke it in a while. Mine is rusted inside but it doesnt change the flavor or anything if you do what i said.

Yeah, mine is a chinese pos. I have cleaned it everytime I used it and then let it sit on the counter to air-dry before I stuffed a rag in the vase and cleaning brush down the stem. Hopefully once the holiday is gone, I'll look into a KM. Maybe a Tri Metal?

KM stuff is very good by all accounts I've seen. I don't know anything about the tri-metal but hookah-life.com, PYH and sphinxhookah.com all have excellent KM products that I know from experience and any of them would be a good source for such a rig. I personally have had great experiences buying from Hookah Company but i've heard a lot of negative reports from people that have bought narghiles from them so...

In terms of sources for Syrians I can strongly recommend my friend Jimmy from J & R for both first rate products and service. I can also strongly recommend Arabica Sous and furat hookahs.

You should look over all those sites before making a choice.

I am going to +1 to all of this! Although personally I have no experience with one of the Syrian Hookahs. So I can't comment on that one, but I have heard good things about them. Like I said, I have two KMs They have treated me very well!
