Default Loving the Zaghloul

Just had another bowl of Nakhla Zaghloul and this.. is awesome.
When i was younger and saw hookah's in movies i always imagined the taste you get from it to be something more darker, cozy and warmer.
Surprise surprise when i started with it everything is all fruity and sweet.

Along comes zaghloul a real manly man tobacco no girly fruity flavoring, no nice colours for you to look at when you pack the bowl, no shiny reflective tinfoil to look if your make up is still keeping up or your hair perfectly combed.
something that'l have your friends pulling horrible faces of disgust while you laugh loudly, drink real beer, burp and blow your superior MANbacco in their faces

..
..

Anyways !
Who shares the love ?
and are there any other "darker" kinda flavors i should check out (not necessarily unflavoured stuff)

(ps. i still love all the fruit, mint etc flavours )

I'm a Zagloul fanboy! Smoke it daily. Plain Salloum is also a similar product. Very nice, rich dark flavor w/a bitter back end and a whoppin' buzz if your new to the stuff. I sometimes smoke w/out foil, but when mixed w/a touch of honey and/or glycerin you can use foil and get this stuff smokin' like a dragon!

Zaghloul is great stuff if you sent it up right. The same is true of Salloum plain and H-H cavendish is great if you want a more mellow, tobacco only flavoured session. In terms of other great, naturally flavoured stuff on the U.S. market DM is basically it but it's awesome. Else wise I like lots of traditional black moassels like Shh 'el-beled, Kass Lux El-Arab, Kass Afriki, Prince Excellent Mood, El Kif, El Gondoul, Arous El Nile but those are not on the U.S. market. Other great stuff is a bunch of Syrian, Turkish and Indian brands that are pretty hard to get if you aren't within about 10 KM from where it was made.

Frolie, I hate to say this but you have much much bigger privates than me.
I've tried it once, got it to smoke, and I do love the smell and flavor but just felt it was not my thing, basically, the strength of it.
Shisha to me is like women, I like em strong but not that strong if you know what I mean, they need to have flavor.

I hear ya! I like my women not too strong, and tasting and smelling sweet.

But seriously, I have never tried "real" tobacco in my hookah, usually just whip out a cigar if that is the flavor I am after.

I'm trying to warm up to it but it's a difficult flavor for me to get quite right. It smells almost like barbecue sauce to me. I'm working on it though.

I have a 50g sample of it I bought at a local shop and wasn't able to get it to smoke right the first time, but you've inspired me to try it the old fashioned way with just a little coal directly on it.

Definitely get some Salloum Plain and DEFINITELY DEFINITELY get some Desi Murli.

I was having trouble getting nakhla's zaghloul to smoke right (0 clouds), and it looks like burnt shisha, anyone knows how to pack it properly?

I had the same problem with no clouds, but I didn't mix it with anything. I am having an absolutely wonderful session with it right now and all I did was pack it somewhat loosely, then put just a little bit of coal on top (on the edges like usual) and it's working perfectly.

Good to know man, I'll pack my bowl loosely next time. Oh and also, did you use foil? or you put the coals directly on the tobacco?

I definitely don't recommend putting coals directly on anything but tombac. Here is some info on how to do it assuming that the Zaghloul (or any other black style moassel is basically fresh) http://www.hookahpro.com/forum/showthread.php?t=14241

I put the coals directly on the tobacco and have done it a few times now. It's a lot different, which may be part of the reason I'm enjoying it so much.

Edit: Be sure to use very little coal!

I need to try zagoul.
me and a buddy of mine used to smoke dry nakhla without foil all the time.It was pretty awsome.Packed a huge buzz and flavor. And the nakhla we were getting was supposed to be dry like that we also smoked the juicer versions about half the time.
Its to bad most online hookah retailers don't let you know what version your getting.
some people wanted the wet and got the dry and some want the dry and not the wet.Now I think all you'll get is the wet stuff unless you go to a good mid-east grocier.

I love me some Zaghloul. Mixed with either honey or molasses and a touch of glycerine, you can have amazing sessions with it. If you like Zaghloul but don't like the buzz, then try Havana's Pipe.

Mixing in small amounts of molasses gives a better burn characteristic in my experience then honey. I have a big thread about that floating around here. I only mix in glycerin and molasses when the moassel is dried out which is a big problem here.

Havana Pipe is a fantastic product and one of the best things on the American market although it doesn't taste like pipe tobacco it's a wonderful, mellow truck load of flavour. I'd recommend it to everyone one including people that normally only smoke fruity, washed junk but want to try something different.

This is the truth people, i've gotten best results by taking a normal/average sized coal and cut it in three equal parts then spread evenly through the bowl.

Something else that i've read around here that seems to help is keeping your fingers wet with every small pluck you put in there, the moisture seems to make packing a bit easier.
